Well, I'm not so certain they're drawn to the ring as such. They don't have a built in Ring of Power-GPS, if they had they'd have found it a very long time ago. Their thing is that they're wraiths, they primarily exist in the unseen realm. When someone puts on the One Ring, they phase into the unseen realm almost entirely and shine up like a literal beacon.

Remember that it was Gollum who told Sauron and his underlings who'd taken the ring from him; a Baggins from The Shire. Pippin was a hobbit with balls enough (or dumb enough) to stare into the palantir, and as far as Sauron knows Pippin was "the guy" since he had enough willpower to resist the dark lord probing his mind for the real thing.

Ok so it's been like 20 years since I read the books, but yes the movies don't address it, but if I remember correctly it is stated in the books that only two things can kill elves:
1: Die in battle.
2: Die of a broken heart (heart break from loving someone, stuff like that).

And that broken heart thing is one of the reasons why Elrond has a fit over Arwen hooking up with Aragon.

Elves don't need guard rails they are so gracile and purposeful with their movement there is no risk of falling. As you can see in the background the bridge the Elves are on has no railing, nor the spiral steps at the bottom of the image.

I'm guessing that accommodation that Frodo is staying is, is designated for halflings or dwarves who may need the railing.
