Yeah, that's the one. Probably the most visually impressive move I've seen on the show. Jorah has a good one when he and Grey Worm and Daario are sneaking into Astapor (Yunkai?) and get surrounded by guards. He sorta flips the guy's sword up the cuts him across the back and sends him straight into Grey Worm's spear. Shit was cool, but I think there's a cut in the middle of it, so less impressive.

I think I said something like that once in a thread some time ago, but anyway. I like the little things in the story that aren't really focused on or anything, but make sense.

Rickard Karstark killed Stafford Lannister at the battle of Oxcross. This is kinda big to just be a coincidence, so most like he did it on purpose (as in, he saw him on the battlefield and rode straight at him, for revenge). It also kinda foreshadows him killing the 2 'lannister' kids later on.

Either he's left with too few to defend the walls, or Stannis gains more numbers quite directly. If he keeps the worst with him and puts them on lockdown, his whole army can't be an effective defensive force against Stannis and the troublemakers may still try killing him and others: Game Over.

If he sends a mix of supporters and dangerous tools outside to fake surrender to Stannis, they may achieve something — or, more likely, get caught thanks to teeth-clenched teamwork not working: Game Over.

If he's found a way out of this by picking the snowdrifts and being creative with who he sent outside, it'll be fun to see.

All in all, general winter has not been kind to either him or Stannis by arriving when he did.

It's one of those ignored plot points, tbqh. You've gotta think Dawn is gonna come into play at some point in the books. It's mentioned many times through the first few books, since it's such an OP sword, but I think dabid and dabnul are only using it for the "born under a bleeding star" part of the Azor Ahai prophecy, since Ned leaned it against the bed where Jon was born, and it was covered in Arthur Dayne's blood, and it looks like Jon is gonna be AA in the show.

Just remember, HEMA doesn't look or feel anything like stage combat. Fight choreography has to look a certain way; even the most "grounded", realistic looking fights on-screen are completely unrealistic. Sword fights were pretty rough-and-tumble, brutal, nasty affairs. Shit might end up looking more like UFC than GoT sometimes, with the grappling and throws and all.

Don't let that stop you, though. HEMA is fucking cool. I'm also not disrespecting good fight choreography, I love that shit.

I'd imagine Dayne wouldn't let them circle him like that. He probably just has an unbelievably in-depth understanding of his positioning and footwork, never actually letting more than one motherfucker near him at a time. It's fantasy, but that's the only way I can think of that would leave it grounded at all.

IRL, if more than one person wants to attack you at a time, you just fucking run. You can be the baddest dude walking, but you'll still get fucked if you have multiple attackers. 2 average joes can fuck up a great boxer or Judoka...and going to the ground is out of the question. It's worse if everyone has a weapon. Only a gun can level that playing field.

Actually, having a short sword or dagger in the off-hand was practiced throughout history for blocking, parrying, and catching/breaking your opponent's weapon. Musashi advocates doing so in The Book of Five Rings, saying that a two-handed grip on a sword fucks up your footwork on uneven ground, and that your off-hand shouldn't go to waste, but rather have the short sword ready.
