What went so wrong with his later movies? Village of the Damned, Ghosts of Mars, The Ward
The soundtracks, also the total inability of the director to perform his primary function in directing actors
He put so much effort into The Thing that when people hated it he decided to stop putting work into his stuff
Complete lack of Kurt Russell, and Donald Pleasence. Ghosts of Mars would have been awesome with Kurt.

>complete lack of Kurt Russell
This.
Prince of Darkness is way too underappreciated
>>84341752
Spent all his 80s mainstream career being shit on by critics and just kind of stopped giving a shit
>>84341752
>The Ward
>John Carpenter made this
>>84341859
But he made great movies without Kurt
(((they))) sabotaged him after he made They Live
>>84341752
>>84341893
Did you both just come from the prince of darkness thread? Not that I don't mind another carpenter thread
>>84341939
Nah I woke up half an hour ago.
>>84341939
I was there but been wondering about this for a while
Precinct 13 is the ultimate late night kino
>>84342040
Rewatched the other night. Fucking great. Have you seen the remake?
>>84342121
>remake
No, I can only imagine its shit though...
how is it?
>>84341752
Vampires is top 5 carpenter for me.
>Halloween
>They Live
>EFNY
>Thing
>Vampires
>>84342221
Haven't seen it. I heard Carpenter say he liked it though
Any director would fuck their own mothers for a golden run of films from Assault on Precinct 13 to They Live. Pure Kino each and every one-- My guess... He got rich. He got tired. he got old and he got bored with the bad reviews. From what I hear he enjoys playing guitar and watching basketball now. But even though he may seem done, not many directors on the planet can beat his run.

If someone takes the time to remake one of your movies, I think its just common courtesy to say, yeah its pretty good! and thanks for taking an interest in my work.
I'll probably try watching it one day, but I know its going to suck
>>84342616
Well yeah there's no reason to remake a Carpenter movie haha. Especially since it's just a remake of Rio Bravo
>>84342616
Nah, its fucking great.
Its a remake done right.
>>84342693
I didn't even like it but it's nothing like Rio Bravo, which is basically just a 2 hour long very good episode of Gunsmoke
>>84342805
They have to fight bad guys from the jail in Rio Bravo. That's the plot of Precinct 13. Carpenter himself has said he just stole the plot from Rio Bravo.
>>84342917
maybe if you distill the plot to Rio Bravo down to "bad guys attack a jail" it's similar, but otherwise they're not alike at all
>>84343026
You were wrong. Just accept it and move on.
>>84343121
yea fine it's exactly the same as Rio Bravo as long as you ignore the first 2 hours of Rio Bravo
