The soundtracks, also the total inability of the director to perform his primary function in directing actors

He put so much effort into The Thing that when people hated it he decided to stop putting work into his stuff

Complete lack of Kurt Russell, and Donald Pleasence. Ghosts of Mars would have been awesome with Kurt.

Any director would fuck their own mothers for a golden run of films from Assault on Precinct 13 to They Live. Pure Kino each and every one-- My guess... He got rich. He got tired. he got old and he got bored with the bad reviews. From what I hear he enjoys playing guitar and watching basketball now. But even though he may seem done, not many directors on the planet can beat his run.
