Because Univision wanted to keep all sites running. They only closed down the main site, Gawker, which was mainly a political mouthpiece/general site. The "Gawker" page was closed due to embarassment and all of the writers now publish under the Gizmodo page.

It's all the same office, just different pages they post to.
