he tries to make half the movie into montages. seriously. you can tell he just could not use the existing footage to make a good film, so he thought he'd get away with montage after montage. it's basically eye-rape.

Ritchie tried to follow Campbell's Hero's Journey by the letter... and missed the mark in every point. I don't know how he managed to make each of the archetypal stages of the journey feel so uninspired and formulaic, but he did it.

Also, the 20-year-old "hip nonlinear narrative" tricks and the "urban" feel did not work at all in the CGI fantasy setting. A realistic medieval feel would've been better for his style.

TLDR: It's shit.

I liked it. The sword scenes were some of the best video games adaptations I have ever seen on the big screen.
I mean:

Watching it now. Paused to brew some coffee but it's entertaining. Def. feels cut down though. If they pull a 04 King Authur and release a directors cut I can be just as good.

It had a very odd tone. I enjoyed parts of it, I was bored by some aspects, puzzled by others. It was just seemed to me that Guy Ritchie wasn't fully aware what kind of movie he was making and it was kind of all over the place.

Some wonderfully moody stuff for a huge blockbuster like this, like the haunting opening shot or the scenes with Jude Law and that creature that was in the water.

Still, overall a tonal mess is how I'd describe it.

If the movie wanted to shit on king Arthur, then it did a great job!
Movie Arthur is a terrible character, a terrible leader and overall a nobody who only makes it to the end of the movie because he can wrap both hands around daddy's sword.

He had no growth, no charisma and no redeeming qualities.

I liked the first quarter of the movie. I liked the epic opening battle, a badass hero for once, and I loved how it didn't waste time in showing Arthur's transition to growing up as it was just about to lull at that point.

But then the last three quarters of the movie dragged on and was pretty boring.
