This movie really messed with me. I was expecting a space comedy,

'War is hell' is a major theme of the movie and one of the main pieces of evidence for why the satire isn't as ineffective as people claim in my opinion.
Heavily juxtaposes the civilian life where they have this glamorous idea of serving the country and how horrible being in the shit is.

This movie influenced me more than anything else in my early teens (saw in 1997). The extreme violence, it manipulates you with the sexuality, the gaze from Dizzy, her subsequent death, the efficiency of fascism etc.

I'm still kind of shaken. But I think it was for the best.

Fuck off pleb this movie is great. A lot of people take the film too seriously and get their panties in a twist. Verhoven isn't some brilliant social critic like some want to believe but he also isn't a stupid hippie. He just made a great action movie with lots of hilarious black comedy. To me the satirical shit is just a stylistic choice to make the film more entertaining/funny, nothing more and nothing less.
