>he prefers disc-based physical media over tape-based physical media
>he has strong opinions on physical media
>owning physical media
I'd rather have someone else own my movies.

>digital media
>never actually own anything you pay for
>lose it all if your system of choice goes bust

it's true that tape-based is more easily repaired and usually more durable (because in a cassette it requires a hard shell container).
The best option is digital recording on tape-based, by far the most rare.

It's odd to me that anyone has nostalgia for cassettes of any kind. Records I get but tapes were always a shitty format.
>he prefers e-books to stone tablets
Fucking pleb

Tapes are kino. But really, they have their advantages. Surviving this long and still being playable is a major one, along with actually owning your media, ease of recording, and so on.

Those old Disney cases were the exception though. Most VHS tapes just had those shitty cardboard sleeves.
>>84286935
Honestly the sleeves were fine if you didn't treat your movies like a spastic child. And even if you fucked up the case (most likely on the corners), the tape would still be fine. They weren't like DVDs and BD with cheap, thin plastic parts to break off and scratch up the movie.

I like the sound of putting a tape into the VCR

>he doesn't have a physical collection
Why?
>not making your own video store

I've honestly thought about it. If I ever come into some money I think I might open an "old media" store.
You can donate your old tapes, cassettes, records, and so on, and receive a discount while shopping. And I'll partner with some local charity (the way Savers / Value Village does) to make people feel good about donating. And I'll buy out the thrift store's stock every now and then.
Now, I doubt this would be very profitable AT ALL, so I'd need to come into A LOT of money before doing this.
anyone else have a tape rewinder with a broken lid so they had to hold the thing down the entire time?
>>84287314
Yep. You'd need to be dedicated AND loaded.
>>84287347
Yeah, fuck that
>>84287347
No, but my PS1 has a broken lid. I needed to put a book on top of it to play games.

I have very fond memories of sneaking into my local rental store with pic related in my coat pocket and dragging it along the shelves.
