Have you ever watched an entire "comedy" special and

Stopped watching stand up comedy specials about 7 years ago. Stand up comedy became such a cringe medium.

No because I'm not a fucking idiot who continues watching something I don't find funny. If you're 5 minutes in and haven't cracked a smile turn it off and stop wasting your time.

5 minutes is good for unknowns, but proven comedians deserve atleast 15. I havent seen any excellent specials where I had to wait 15 minutes, but I've seen more than a handful that got pretty good after a slow start.

Like this anon said, I can usually tell if I want to watch something or not. I give it 10 minutes, 15 max. Netflix is putting out so many specials now, and 90% of them are shit. Judd Apatow has one coming out, and from his spots on late night, I already know I can just skip it.

Stand-up comedy, good stand-up comedy, comes from pain, and it requires a certain cynical disconnect from life, where you can look down on it, and make objective observations that seem so ludicrous in perspective that you just have to laugh.

Nowadays, no one really gets hurt anymore, and if they do, they end up getting so many back-pats that they take themselves too seriously. They can't laugh at themselves, because they got racism'd or sexism'd or just plain hurt, and apparently these days those things are super serious and if you dare to laugh at that, even if it happened to you, you get blacklisted by every trendy media conveyor ever. That's why they can't make the objective, cruel, ironically un-ironic observations that comedians used to as well. If you see the way a certain group makes baseless judgements and the way another certain group reacts, and this pattern is so consistent that everyone is familiar with it, you are met with cringes instead of laughs when you joke about it these days, because it hits too close to home, and nobody wants to be the one person who laughed at an "offensive" joke, or they'll get socially sabotaged on social media (which is practically as important as real life to normies).

Just look at Dave Chapelle's recent comeback special. He tried to infuse some of his old humor by doing some racy and controversial jokes, but the modern audience was too "socially-aware" to laugh like they used to.

Everyone takes everything too seriously these days to be good stand-up comedians. They have to be playing a wacky fictional character in a skit for people to feel "safe" to laugh at them. We are too focused on being politically correct, socially-aware, and trying too hard to "overcome our own biases" to make light of things or laugh at the darker side of life anymore.

I liked it, at the end of it I didnt know what to think of it, was there a story there? was it all a parody of plays? a parody of parody plays? was it half serious half joking?

At the end of the day it left me thinking but yeah I can see how some people would expect it to be comedy through and through.

I would say to anyone who watches it go in with no expectation because it changes the tone from minute to minute almost like freeform jazz but that was obviously rehearsed.
