What the fuck did I just watch?
Well alright, memes aside,I haven't read any online theories yet but from my viewing, this is what I could gather. The first half is an alternative reality. It's a living symbolism of human hope. When Diane moved to Hollywood, she imagined an exciting life. One where she meets a mysterious stranger and falls head first into mystery and along the way, finds love. She views herself as talented and kind which is what many people want themselves to be. Her life was like a daydream, full of exciting moments and romance. The second half (or rather the last third) of the movie was the crushing reality. Her dreams failed and her romance died. This is a more cynical yet perhaps realistic outcome. There were thousands before her who came to Hollywood with stars in their eyes only to come crashing back to earth. She is a failed actress, she is sexually crazed(masturbation scene) and an unreliable rude person (scene where neighbour) retrieves her belongings. As for the cowboy, the old couple and the box,I have no clue.
Well /tv/? What was your interpretation of the film?
check who the film is dedicated to. Also realize Lynch is a kafkain, so making shit make sense isn't his number one priority.

Yes that's pretty close. Also in her dream world she imagines there is a conspiracy to justify why she can't get any roles.

First half was a dream. Second half she woke up. She wanted to be the girl she was in a relationship with. She was sexually abused by grandparents and moved to LA where she was further exploited. Tried to have girlfriend killed after she left her for a famous director.
Yep. Lynch is kino-king
I'll never get over the fact that the clearest and most in depth explanation of the movie I have ever seen came from a dude writing in character as the Incredible Hulk.

>As for the cowboy, the old couple and the box,I have no clue.
Parts of her psyche. Along with the Hitman.

The box is where she locks the repressed memories and feelings about being sexually abused by grandad.
>edgy kids think the old people has something to do with sexual abuse
lol. They clearly represented all the people who built her up with expectation and put her under increasing pressure to become a Hollywood star

I assume that's why the cowboy is so goofy and unthreatening
