Bonus points if there's some kind of public witch hunt involved.

That's putting an excess amount of responsibility on her for his life. Nobody is arguing that she is guiltless, but her punishment was too harsh for the ambiguous crime she committed.
>>
>>84152729
Indeed. That's why I'm interested to see where this goes. This is a potentially major precedent to set.
>>
The ONLY reasons why anyone would defend her are:
-white knights
- girls dont want other girls to deal with consequences
- /tv/ and /pol/ identify with her b/c they do the same thing she did ((((kys)))) posted all the time - see no one wants to think theyre the bad guy so they will rationalize their actions

where is the precedent that the victim needs to be personally familiar with the defendant for it to be involuntary manslaughter? So far, all I see is that if your words make the person kill themselves, you're guilty. Whether he should have listened or not, is not relevant - the fact the he did listen and believed it is enough.

Crimes carry their own sentence. When you are convicted of multiple crimes then you get multiple sentences.

If i killed you and got 25 to life, then killed 3 other people and were also unanimously convicted of those murders as well I would get 25 to life X4. so 100 years to quad life sentence. Thats no chance of parole.

This is for all crimes, its up to a judges discretion what your sentence is.

are you getting it now?

Stupid bitch should be shot, but the "misogynists" on r/4chan are too busy white knighting about her. I guarantee though, with the genders reversed, they'd call for the guy to be executed.
>>
>>84153907
Please point out where I said her actions weren't linked to his. I also never said she was innocent or a good person in any way, but she was not in a position of power over him.

What I am saying is that I don't think she is fully responsible for his death and that manslaughter is too severe for her actual "crime" (which is, in itself, legally ambiguous).

>>84153905
She did help him find one of the better suicide methods, I'll give her that.

Most euthanasia is relating to people with incurable disease though. It could be argued that she encouraged him to get help and since it didn't help then suicide was his only option (related, I think someone in the Netherlands or something was able to request euthanasia based on mental illness). I doubt any euthanasia advocates wanted to touch this case though.

Even the ACLU thinks it's bullshit:

There is no law in Massachusetts making it a crime to encourage someone, or even to persuade someone, to commit suicide. Yet Ms. Carter has now been convicted of manslaughter, based on the prosecution’s theory that, as a 17-year-old girl, she literally killed Mr. Roy with her words. This conviction exceeds the limits of our criminal laws and violates free speech protections guaranteed by the Massachusetts and U.S. Constitutions.

The implications of this conviction go far beyond the tragic circumstances of Mr. Roy’s death. If allowed to stand, Ms. Carter’s conviction could chill important and worthwhile end-of-life discussions between loved ones across the Commonwealth.

Because the dude was not in full control of his actions because of his depression and shit and so you could say he was mentally handicapped and she was the person he trusted and she made him do it saying how she'll take care of his family and sisters etc..

And she did all that just so she can get attention from other kids in high school.. That's her thought process.. Would you want a person who thinks like this out in public?

I might be biased because I've known people who went through the shit the poor guy went through and it sickens me how she could do that to someone who loved her and trusted her
>>
>>84163773
Reminder that she was on the exact same anti-depressants as he was

not really he was going to do it no matter what and craved attention. if it was a broad we'd all have forgotten this trial.

>if she's guilty for involuntary manslaughter for telling him to kill himself, the entire 4chan will be guilty if some faggot decides to an hero

Yes, a bunch of randos in the internet telling you to kill yourself and your girlfriend telling you to kill yourself, same thing.
>>
>>84163296
You people are unbelievable.

It doesn't matter how upset her texts make you. Your emotions, and everyone else's, are irrelevant to her legal liability. Coaxing someone into suicide is literally not illegal. There's no criminal law that her conduct violated.

It doesn't matter how reprehensible or awful she is--if her conduct didn't violate a law, then she's not guilty of breaking a law. You people don't have the most basic, fundamental understanding of the legal system.

Legal experts all over the country comment about this, but little betas get upset, therefore, she's guilty. Fucking morons.

And why are you people even on 4chan if you imagine that it should be a crime to be mean to some idiot? This site is 80% being mean to people, many of whom are idiots.

Actual exchange between Carter and the victim:

CONRAD ROY: How was your day?
MICHELLE CARTER: When are you doing it?
CONRAD: Since you don’t get your snapchat anymore, I sent them to you.
CARTER: (Smiley face) My day was okay. How was yours?
CONRAD: Good.
CARTER: Really?
CONRAD: Yes.
CARTER: That’s great. What did you do?
CONRAD: Ended up going to work for a little bit and then just looked stuff up.
CARTER: When are you gonna do it? Stop ignoring the question
>>
Sounds like typical vengeance bullshit.

Guy killed himself, people are sad and feel someone has to be blamed for it.
>>
>>84163903

CARTER: You’re so hesitant because you keeping over thinking it and keep pushing it off. You just need to do it, Conrad. The more you push it off, the more it will eat at you. You’re ready and prepared. All you have to do is tum the generator on and you will be free and happy. No more pushing it off. No more waiting.
CONRAD: You’re right.
CARTER: If you want it as bad as you say you do it’s time to do it today.
CONRAD: Yup. No more waiting.
CARTER: Okay. I’m serious. Like you can’t even wait ’till tonight. You have to do it when you get back from your walk.
CONRAD: Thank you.
CARTER: For what?
CONRAD: Still being here.
CARTER: I would never leave you. You’re the love of my life, my boyfriend. You are my heart. I’d never leave you.
CONRAD: Aw.
CARTER: I love you.
CONRAD: Love you, too.
CARTER: When will you be back from your walk?
CONRAD: Like, five minutes.
CARTER: Okay. So you gonna do it?

On July 4, 2014, a week before Conrad Roy's death, Michelle Carter sent him a series of angry texts after a failed suicide attempt the previous night:
Conrad Roy: hey sorry I just took sleeping pills and fell asleep
Michelle Carter: So it didn't work
Michelle Carter: That's such a lie
Michelle Carter: You said you wanted this bad. I knew you weren't gonna try hard
Michelle Carter: I feel like such an idiot
Conrad Roy: Why
Michelle Carter: Because you didn't even do anything! You lied about this whole thing! You said you were gonna go to the woods and do it and you said things that made me feel like maybe you were actually serious, and I poured my heart out to you thinking this was gonna be the last time I talked to you. And then you tell me you took sleeping pills? Whixh [sic] first of all I know that's a lie because you already said you wouldn't get enough and idk how you would of [sic] got them. I'm just so confused. I thought you really wanted to die but apparently you don't, I feel played and just stupid
Conrad Roy: Don't I found out a new plan. and I'm gonna fo [sic] it tonight
Michelle Carter: I don't believe you
Michelle Carter: You're gonna have to prove me wrong because I just don't think you really want this. You just keeps [sic] pushing it off to another night and say you'll do it but you never do
Conrad Roy: okay
Michelle Carter: Okay what?
Conrad Roy: I'll prove you wrong
Michelle Carter: What are you planning on doing?
Michelle Carter: Poision [sic] would work
Conrad Roy: Carbon monoxide or helium gas. I want to deprive myself of oxygen
Conrad Roy: don't feel like an idiot it's gonna happen
Michelle Carter: Tonight?
Conrad Roy: Eventually
Michelle Carter: Cute J haha I love you
Michelle Carter: SEE THATS WHAT I MEAN. YOU KEEP PUSHING IT OFF! You just said you were gonna do it tonight and now you're saying eventually….

Anyone who believes it's a crime to be mean to a stupid loser is an emotionally crippled weakling.

You're probably the same people who think it's not terrible to invite poor, uneducated muslims to live in nice countries. It takes the same mindless emotionalism to come to both of these conclusions.
>>
>>84164220

there's a chasm sized gulf between being mean and talking a headcase into killing himself. be fucking reasonable.

The faggot who killed himself was an attention whoring faggot who deserves to be dead for listening to a woman, but I'm always glad to see the pussy pass fail, hope this cunt enjoys her 2 years

Most people reacting against this are really acting on emotion with little to no knowledge of the law. What's surprising is how the judge acted.

>Coaxing someone into suicide is literally not illegal.

Yes it is - according to this case it's not manslaughter in the 4th degree.

Nope. It's a subjective interpretation.
>headcase
Just how fucked up is the guy? If his IQ is above 90, and he hasn't shown some sort of extreme mental illnesses requiring inpatient treatment and mind-altering medication, then this is just being mean to a loser, which is in no way remotely illegal.

Being simply depressed doesn't cut it.

But there's no law, no statute or judicial precedent, that agrees. That's the problem. This is a rogue judge making an emotional decision.

The judge DRASTICALLY expanded the legal definition of "manslaughter" by concluding that coaxing someone into suicide fits the definition. It's a poor legal decision and stands a great chance to get overturned, as it should.

It's literally just "This girl hurst our wittle feelings, lets makes 'manslaughter' mean a lot more than it has for the past 300 years XD!"
>>
>>84162970
>There is no law in Massachusetts making it a crime to encourage someone, or even to persuade someone, to commit suicide.

There are plenty of laws. One not reporting a life endangered that you know about is a crime. Two encouraging a death is a crime. Three it is well established constitutional law that not all speech is protected, like yelling fire in a movie theater.

My fiancee is highly suicidal and I tell her to kill herself all the time when she's acting like a whiny bitch. Her Dad does the same thing. 9/10 times she stops crying immediately and then 5 mins later is laughing at how illogical she was being. The 1/10 time she cries harder and eventually shuts up and comes around 5 mins after laughing as usual.

If you kill yourself its suicide. Your own volition. No one has any reason to stop you and if you're looking for a way to back out you'll find one yourself. Kys.

That's clearly exaggerating the decision.

Her interactions with him were more in the vein of a cult leader grooming a person into drinking the koolaid. She wanted him to kill himself so she could be the victim and start an instagram career - it wasn't just 4chan bantz like you autists think it was.
>>
>>84152130
You have a very limited understanding of the law if you can't understand why pushing someone to commit suicide is illegal and you're probably retarded if you believe that people like her should be walking the streets.

>Suicide is a crime

His family was said to be abusive, why aren't they on the hook for his depression and eventual suicide? Considering he was suicidal before this girl encouraged it and even a history of suicide attempts they should be on the hook too.

>if you imagine that it should be a crime to be mean to some idiot
You keep insisting that she was being mean to him. She wasn't.
>>
>>84164157
>Because you didn't even do anything! You lied about this whole thing!
She sounds pretty disappointed about it. Like maybe she was personally eager for him to commit suicide.
