John Wick is basically just a Payback rip-off that somehow manages to be good in its own right.
John Wick
>retired assassin who was so talented he was practically a scary myth, seeks revenge for a home invasion that ended in the death of the dog his recently deceased wife gave him.
Payback
>low profile professional thief seeks his share of a heist ($75,000) from those that betrayed him for it, facing an entire criminal syndicate befuddled by the fact that he would go through all this trouble for what is to them such a petty amount and the fact that they have no idea who this man is.
One is an internationally known assassin and the other a nobody.
One is skilled in every weapon and martial art imaginable and the other uses dirty play, surprise and an incredible tolerance to pain.
They're stoic characters with plot armour. That's where the similarities end, anon.

>and an incredible tolerance to pain
8 pints of beer for breakfast will do that to you
