i guess this could go both ways. the jedi claim to be protectors and as an extension of that mediators, arbiters, etc. suppress your emotions in those situations is obviously beneficial. and on the inverse, you could easily argue that someone powerful (a SITH LORD?!) They original trilogy used the force as an illustration of inner human conflict and how people struggle to come to term with their emotions.
The prequels completely skipped that concept and used the force as that thing that gives jedis their abilities and allows them to wield a light saber. Unfortunately this turns jedis just into stoic monks with superpowers, who can't be used to further the plot. They aren't emotional, they don't want anything, they aren't jealous, angry or sad, they don't have plans or goals or motives. This is really bad, since they won't do anything on their own, but just react to other character's actions. So, the evil character does something, and all the jedis can do is find out and try to stop it. That is why all the Jedi characters and their story lines are so painfully bland and boring, they have no features on their own. And it's also why they fight the dark side so aggressively. If you took away that fight against the dark side, there just would be nothing left. It's everything they are.

Wrong. The people prone to outbursts are those who bottle up their emotions. Ask any shrink out there. Being a mediator requires the ability to handle with negative emotions. How's a person who lives his life running away from fear and anger supposed to deal with other people's fears and anger? This is the very reason why every psychologist HAS to undergo therapy before attending.
