They'd sound pretty fucking stupid with a Brooklyn accent.
Who wants to watch a flick where everybody speaks proper Latin?
>hey i'm conquerin' here

literally me
give it the ol mel gibson's passion of the christ treatment
>Takes place in Ancient Rome
>They pronounce soft c's and they use v's
That picture reminds me of Jim Varney playing Ceasar.

No modern accent should be used. Without a time machine there's no real way to determine their exact accent but wouldn't an old central Italian accent be the most similar? Why use an accent that was not only foreign to them but a version of it that wouldn't exist until a few centuries after the Empire collapses?
>takes place in ancient Egypt
>no aliens
>>84127641
And what accent should they have? One's as good as another since we have no way of knowing what they sounded like
>>84128528
you want them to speak the wrong language?

I think the point is that they have to use English because it's an English-speaking audience, so they use a plain English accent without any local dialect. It's not cockneys or scousers, that would sound ridiculous, as would an American accent.
>>84127641
hey, don't talk sully on the thirteenth
>>84129566
OP only applies to English TV shows/movies. Italy also make Roman dramas but you never watch them. Guess what.. they're in Italian.
>>84131206
Plenty of English and American shows/movies where they use accurate accents. Two french people will speak english so we can understand but in a french accent, eastern european characters doing the same and so on.
>>84131254
any good ones to recommend?
What does the accent matter when they're not supposed to be speaking English in the first place?
>>84131348
Nope, I don't watch them. The production is shit compared to US/English productions.
>>84131416
This. They're supposed to be speaking Greek
>any movie that takes place outside of predominately english speaking countries prior to the 1850's understanding of conversational speaking and speaks english under those set of circumstances
WHERRS THE ACCURACY

weni widi wici

That's the byzantines
Takes place in Gaul, for the most part. I guess for it to be accurate, it would have to utilise both Latin and Gallic.

Enjoy your single-language movies my man.
>>84133776
Enjoy your retarded bullshit.
Perhaps if they put as much effort in to proper writing so the story didn't become completely retarded after season 5, then spending time writing fictitious languages might be worth it.

>hiring a few languages experts is retarded bullshit
are you okay?
>>84133915
>putting more time and effort in to making a made up language than the actual storyline
Why would you watch that drivel?
>>84133971
Anon.
A hired contractor for languages can work independent of a scriptwriter.
It's two separate workers. It wastes zero time.
>>84129657
>>84134019
It costs money that could have been spent on hiring additional writers.
Perhaps some people with actual talent.
>>84134104
You're clueless, aren't you?
The writing got bad because the show got ahead of the books. You can't replace GRRM by throwing money at scriptwriters.
Regarding GoT... apart from Season 5 it's an absolutely brilliant show. Stop with this "it's shit now" meme. Everyone on /tv/ is DYING for season 7, and if they say they aren't they're either lying, retarded or just being a contrarian to look cool with the capeshit redditors.
>>84129566
you're a fucking retard mate. If you've already decided to have the actors speak English rather than Latin the choice of dialect becomes trivial because ultra-realism has already been discarded.
>>84131561
not a real word. byzantine historiography is objectively wrong.
>>84133738
You're Greek. In the sense you take it up the ass (if there truly is any other sense).
