If TOS really is not for you, watch Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock, and The Voyage Home movies then watch The Next Generation. You will get the gist of The Original Series from that, but you SHOULD really watch TOS just because that's where it all started. I understand it can be a bit...dry, just as the first two season of The Next Generation are. It gets better.

DS9 just feels so small in scale, not to mention the majority of standalone episodes ending anticlimatically and in some kind of mexican standoffs where characters talk their way out of trouble, but not before a thrid party enters the picture as if it was standing there the whole time waiting for earlier characters to show up.

it was shot like TNG with the show being done on film but the effects and editing done on video.
TOS was the easiest transfer because it was shot and edited on film, and I'm relatively new to trek but I believe the effects were already redone for the DVD release with the foresight of HD.

TNG they had to go to all the masters, scan the film in, re edit all the shots and do some cleanup. Then go an redo or clean up all the effects for High Def. A process taking years and millions.
The blu rays didn't sell as well as they planned so ds9 and voy plans fell through. Granted I don't think classic trek would have gained the resurgence new following it has if it wasn't for the great quality available for streaming.
The ds9 doc theyre making had plans to try to remaster the footage theyre using in hd at least, with additional money funded allowing for more scenes to be redone. Seems like ds9 is getting more popular every year weirdly do maybe it will lead to something

Data could throw faster than any MLB player and hit perfectly. Riker would probably be pretty good, and Picard is in good shape and competitive.

But I'm sure ds9 would have the strategy aspect better than anyone with sisko.

All I know for sure is voyager would be last place. Nelix would be picking dandelions in the outfield for a stew.

You do not need any guide, you should try to watch every episode. What I did was that if by after the intro the episode does seem really unimportant or bad, i'd go to the next one. And even then I missed all kinds details and episodes that become good.
Going back I'd watch everything, s1 and 2 make you want to drop some times maybe skip those episodes. Theres probably still about 5 or 6 episodes I havent seen, so at least it will be cool whenever I come across them

Endgame isn't a particularly bad episode. It's just that it doesn't feel like the end, there's no sense of finality imbued in it. It felt like just another episode where they tease the crew getting home, then in the end they actually do, and it just suddenly ends.

If we assume each show's captain is the coach and not a player...
Well, I think it mostly boils down to who is the pitcher.
TOS, Spock's gotta be the pitcher. His above par strength and logical mind means he'll be able to pitch exactly how he desires fairly well, and remember that the pitcher will take directions from the dugout. Aside from that, however, Uhura and Bones would be largely useless.
TNG gets Data as pitcher for the same reasons as spock, but Data would be a better pitcher. Combine that with Worf (I'm putting him on the show he spent the most time) and the clearly physically fit Riker, and you've got a pretty solid team.
DS9, though, has the best coach of any of them, combined with Kira (who we know is in great shape), Julian (who's top tier genetics), and Odo (a motherfucking shapeshifter) it'll be hard to beat. Plus, we've actually seen most of them play.
Voyager would have Torres pitch, and Tuvok and Seven would stack the athletic abilities more in their favor, but the rest of the crew weren't even commando style crew. They were a science vessel. Janeway would be the worst coach hands down, and her crew frequently ignores her directions.
Enterprise would do better than ToS for no other reason than some of them probably grew up PLAYING baseball, but fail the rest.

Overall, my money's on TNG, but DS9 could give them a good run.

>>
>>84046815

>>
>>84047837
Maybe. It is probably true that most of the series take from TNG nowadays. TOS met a lot of really weird aliens and places, which TNG avoided for the most part. Then again, even TOS rarely met the same weirdos twice.

I would have loved to write a story set in a prequel setting, but I know better than to screw with canon like Discovery is doing. I think I would have just made a mini-series on Earth, with no especially high stakes to deal with. Get some views of what big cities have become once cars have been obsoleted.

He recognised the Cardy threat before it manifested, if Picard had listened to him then they would have been in no position to compromise the security of the Alpha Quadrant by housing the Dominion. If he had done this through proper procedure the way Picard asked him for he could have had his wish. If he hadn't gone all "Cowboy Diplomacy" and "Wounded War Veteran" he would have been vindicated. Atleast his actions exposed the ships were using dampening fields for "scientific research." And we all know that in ST "Scientific Research" is the same as "making art and cinema in your country" for the CIA today. He was atleast able to get Star Trek to quit seeing them as allies and start paying attention to them once again.

>>Jellico
He literally did nothing wrong. Riker was way out of line. I'll give Riker the benefit of the doubt that he was on purposely poorly written that way just to make a scene more interesting. But a real commanding officer would know Picard getting caught was just part of the job and Jellico was fully justified in not compromising his position just to save him. Really demanding, sometimes making unrealistic demands just to push people around. Telling Troi to finally put on a proper uniform was his best decision ever. Who the hell does she think she is walking around on a military vessel dressed like a prom queen? Picard was too lenient. The only people who enjoyed serving him were Data and Worf. Would make Kurn proud.

>>Pressman
Absolutely did nothing wrong. You're only supposed to just sign the treaty but secretly not go through with it. They could have just played semantics with the Treaty and claim they didn't have "cloaking" technology but instead have "phasing" technology. Cloaking isn't the only way to turn invisible and become undetectable.

All three of them could have prevented the entire Dominion.

CONTINUED
>>
>>84049088
I was going to post more but I ran out of room. Cardassia joins the Dominion because it is weak. However, WHY it is weak is what lead them to joining the Dominion in desperation. Unfortunately, Gul Dukat's decision for joining the Dominion wasn't completely selfish. It was The Klingons that declared war on Cardassia. While Cardassia was dealing with the Klingons, the Obsidian order and the Tal Shi'ar ignore helping them to just go give the Founders a deathblow. It was the Obsidian Order and the Tal Shi'ar that kept the Klingons' bloodlust for conquest in check along with the Federation Treaty. Without the Obsidian Order, the State fell to civil war between the Military and the Central Command. Without the Obsidian Order, the Central command the Military could not hold order on Cardassia nor hold back the Klingons on their own. So they joined the Dominion and gave the Dominion a foot in the door to the Alpha Quadrant.

>Picard for being a Canadian Prime Minister and refused to kill everyone because if he killed them the enemy would win
>Klingons, specifically Galron who wanted to make a name for himself in conquest. Who pushed the Cardassians into the arms of the Dominion.

No, I don't. It's a good conversation about Star Trek. The guy who started the Did Nothing Wrong Meme had something going. Did Dukat REALLY do nothing wrong? Really makes the Gag bowl slippery.

What is it about helpless little women that look like little boys that makes us want us want them? Pic related. She emits this beautiful helplessness, delicacy, and childish weakness that I find extremely arousing. Maybe because that's how she was originally introduced. Like a pathetic weak confused child trying to make sense of all these ancient personalities running through her head. But then again, the actress Nicole de Boer is the same. I unironically love season 7 of DS9 (tho the second half of the final episode was shit).
>Vic did nothing wrong and he had good episodes also that Sinatra music was great
>Ezri had more personality than Jadzia and could actually act, so it wasn't painful watching her.
>Dukat went to shit, true, but I still maintain that if the writers had started his and Winn's storyline much earlier (start of the season or so), it would have been fairly good.
>Damar became a true character and the hero Cardassia needed and deserved.
>>
>>84051050
Vic was a good character / actor, but he had too much screentime for a side character. I think everybody gets tired of multiple holosuite episodes.
Ezri was a good change of pace, you go from perfect Jadzia to somebody who doesn't know what the hell they're doing. But with only 1 season of development they kind of had to force her into as much stuff as possible which felt weird.
Dukat went to shit yes.
Damar was probably a top 3 character in the last season

Felis catus is your taxonomic nomenclature,
An endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature;
Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses
Contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses.

I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,
A singular development of cat communications
That obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
For a rhythmic stroking of your fur to demonstrate affection.

A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents;
You would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance.
And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion,
It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.

O Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display
Connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array.
And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend,
I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.

I get your complaint about the holosuite episodes, tho I always enjoyed them. But I can see them getting annoying. I think I read somewhere that the way they were filmed, makes it very hard to do. Something about the way TNG used models and practical effects made it easily doable, whereas newer series switched to CGI for their effects so remastering would mean having to have everything re-rendered from scratch.

CGI is the problem. When they did TNG they actually had to remake every single special effect shot from the ground up which ended up being time consuming and very expensive.

http://www.treknews.net/2017/02/02/why-ds9-voyager-not-on-blu-ray-hd/

>TrekNews.net: Do you think CBS All Access could be the impetus for CBS to remaster those shows?

>Robert Meyer Burnett: Hard to say, but probably no. Like Amazon and Netflix have already discovered, the success of All Access depends on whether or not there’s enough exclusive content to convince viewers to sign up. Star Trek: Discovery is a good start, but it remains to be seen if it can not only recapture the fanbase, but also be destination viewing for an entirely new audience. But until All Access has Netflix money to burn, there’s not going to be a DS9 or Voyager restoration anytime soon. Again, you’re looking at eight years and perhaps 40 million dollars of work.

I don't know what to think about what they did to kirk. I don't think it's Pine's fault, I think he can capture the role. I feel like the problem is that they write Kirk to be some action oriented idiot, when instead he should be more like a shrewd submarine commander. Also, it doesn't make sense for Kirk to always be questioning his ability. Kirk can question a lot of things, but a lack of confidence in his own ability should not be one of his problems.

I watched all three, but also only watched this one today
My trekkie friend said he hated the first 2, but liked this one.
I felt the opposite. This was the worst of the three.
Unlike the ToS or even the last 2 films, Kirk doesn't try to think his way out at ALL. To any of the situations, with the sole exception being hiding the mcguffin.
But not only that, there's no plot.

It's literally just "we're under attack" for 2 hours.
The villain has no motivation visible, and has to have it in an exposition dump at the end of the movie.

The best part of the entire movie was Scotty and albino chick being engineering buddies, but it seemed like the whole point of this movie was "Let's show the audience that everyone in the cast needs everyone else, so we'll just split them up with unconventional partners, like spock & bones, Uhura & Sulu, Checkov and Kirk, Scott and an attractive woman"

It was just a bad film.
Not Nemesis bad, but pretty bad.

That being said, I'd still hit it. Why? So I could say that I fucked Jadzia Dax, that's why.

That had such a creepy feel to it and really delved into Ezri's psyche. One of my favourite episodes in season 7

It's just feels nothing like Star Trek, just a Sci Fi action movie with a hot alien chick to sell it.
>>
So, if you move at near light speed velocity, as we all know, time around you would move faster, or rather time would move slower for you while maybe hundreds of years pass on the outside. Even impulse is described as being about 1/4th lightspeed (max).
Now considering that factor, how fucked up would the star trek universe be? Every time a ship travels between two planets the crew wouldn't age but it could easily be hundreds of years for those planets between departure and arrival.

Who cares? None of them could beat Data.
For that matter, none of them could beat their own ship Computer.

Spock beat the computer in one episode and Kirk beat Spock. Does that mean Kirk would win amongst the captains?

>>

No, McCoy acted like a complete cunt with regards to the crew's safety. All he cried about was, "Muh burials," while they were under attack by giant Neanderthals. Literally had no place questioning Spock's authority to begin with.

>>84058128

>>
>>84060992
Spock is always unpleasant in TOS when he is in a position of command. It's intentional writing, to point out that he is alien. It doesn't make him wrong, it just makes him kinda a dick supervisor. Having said that, the crew should obey, even if he is a dick. By the time of Movie 2, Spock has mellowed into groovy hippie Spock, which everyone loves working for.
>>
>>84059675
there's no way that ugly chud came out of nana
>>
>>84061295
Most time travel episodes in Trek are garbage...the temporal cold war, all of the TOS ones. I really liked the DS9 one with the ferengei and the tribbles one, as well as the TNG episode with the historian from the future, but I always feel conflicted on whether time travel should've been avoided entirely. I guess that's the nature of the series, it's definitely not hard science fiction.
>>
I always remember one episode, in which Kirk picks a fight with a cloud. He sees it, thinks he recognizes it, and decides immediately to exterminate it. This backfires and the cloud starts kicking everyone's ass. It always left me the impression that the whole thing was Kirk's fault, and he kinda got away with it.

I fell asleep watching Voyager and woke up early in the morning to 7of9 telling Janeway that she was "no worse than the Borg" for refusing to willfully let her return to the Borg and I'm still not sure how I feel about that.

Ruined my entire fucking day.

Removing the implants was a mistake.
Making her angry all the time was a mistake.
