I think you're vastly overestimating the amount of things someone has to do to survive. I'm not saying in the beginning, but by the time he figured out his fishing and his water accumulation, etc., things would get real tedious, real quick. Plus,it's not like people don't think about these things when they're working.

Not really. People look to old guys for advice because they've had more experience and longer to think about it all.
