It's not just critics, it is the entire field of journalism that has been flooded with narcissism. Previously a journalist would be a impartial person and there would be a few opinionated people regulated to those opinion pieces, the clickbaits of old media. This kind of criticism is only a problem if the producers recognize it as valid and make movies to accommodate to that kind of distorted childish POV.

There is nothing wrong with diversity by itself, the problem is when the subtext turns to text and the movie turns into a political statement where having a race or sexual diversity is it's only value.

This means that the political statement about society by itself is not really the decisive factor on making a movie good or bar.

A good movie with a female or black lead will still be a good movie while a bad movie with a female or black lead will still be a bad movie. It's mostly irrelevant.
