I think the show has potential. The premise is interesting and the production is great. I'm by no means a triggered /pol/ kid, but the heavy handed agenda that they're pushing is really annoying. It's so forced, and it doesn't surprise me that it's not in the books because it's so out of place. Also, the show derails itself way too often. They talk about Wisconsin being their goal in episode 1 or 2, and they haven't even gotten there yet. There's no way they finish the whole story before cancellation, and I can't say I'll miss it much.

for me it's the fact that it's visually very pleasing, and the acting is also very good for the most part. the plot is not very interesting to me, but the style makes up for it. my only problem with the art direction is the starz color palette which i think is fairly dull and somehow makes things look blurry, or out of focus or something, especially backgrounds and terrain. this was a big deal in spartacus too.

I'm disappointed that the first season was this short, and that they elected to leave it on that note. Having an ongoing multi-season story arc is fine, and a wise choice for this material, but it still requires the individual seasons to have some degree of self-contained, resolving narrative, otherwise it feels like nothing is being accomplished... we're treading water. And that's exactly how I felt here. Despite the grandiose events, it all felt like nothing. The instigation of a war we knew was coming. The revelation of an identity we've known all along.

Still - fantastic casting, and I've loved all the episodes up to this one. Despite my current irritation I still think this is an excellent adaptation.

This is pretty much the worst adaptation of any book that I have ever seen. It's nothing like the source material. The only similarity they share is in name only.
