People made me watch this because it is apparently the "greatest movie of our era" but
>They never catch the killer
>Never recover the body
>Family never has closure at all
>Father gets his shit wrecked while the killer watches and mother ditches the family for years
>Sister becomes a dropout teen mom

What the fuck, there is no resolution in this movie. Shit falls apart and then it ends. What am I supposed to get out of this?
>>
>>83984943

lol who the fuck are you talking to that said this is the "greatest movie of our era"
>>
>>83985201
Girl that fucking loved this movie and recommended it a lot

>Shit falls apart and then it ends
I think you already know what you're supposed to get out of it, OP.
>>
>>83984943
Its a girls's flick.
the important thing is the sentimentalism, not facts or story progresion.
>>
>>83985253

She sounds like a pretty big pleb mate
>>
>>83984943
Chicks love depressing as shit movies anon
>>
>>83985289
This.
It's a movie that mothers watch with their daughters to reinforce why they shouldn't talk to people like you.
>>
This is what makes thiese types of movies annoying for me to watch.

I actually enjoy the fantasy in films. I like it when they stop the bad guy at the last minute and things work out. Happy endings from impossible odds because shit happens in real life. I don't want to be entertained by real life.

What?
Did you not google it, it's got pretty mixed reviews and nobody aside from your friend is saying it's an underrated classic
>>
>>83985599
tbf most of the girls i know find this movie marvelous because it makes them cry hard, that could explain that phrase.

Well that's your problem right there. Women aren't people, and you should stop taking their advice on what is good
>>
Going back to watching Dumb and Dumber because fuck this
>>
>>83985768

I can guarantee you my gf and my main female friend have way better taste than you
>>
Would it have killed them to have a scene where cops manage to track the killer down?
>>
>>83985835
Well they told you Lovely Bones was the greatest movie of our era, so I think you'd be wrong.
>>
>>83985907

But I'm not the OP

my gf would laugh at that trash movie
>>
>>83985907
The movie could still be depressing as fuck too.

>The police finally track down the killer after 20 years.
>He's got alzheimers and doesn't even remember killing her, much less where the body is hidden.
>>
Terrible movie.
>>
>>83985253

Daily reminder Lynne Ramsay was supposes to be the original director of this movie and her version got screwed over because of hackson and jew producers
>>
>>83986066
what could have that been? unsimulated rape scene?
>>
>>83986066
Well, in 09 Jackson could film himself masturbating for an hour and he would still be awarded a dozen oscars for it. They went with the same bet.
>>
>>83986111
>Well, I actually picked it up very early on, before it became the bestseller that it became. I like the first half better, and thought the second half was just Susie wandering about in heaven full of roses, ponies, and that stuff. I thought it was really cheesy.

>What I did rewrite – I thought it should be more like Hamlet, where it’s a ghost from Jack’s perspective, the dad. He imagines her because he’s just going crazy with grief. You meet Harvey, and Harvey wasn’t a dollhouse maker who lived next door, which seemed completely obvious to me.

>They just meet by chance, randomly, and Harvey acts uncomfortable because he killed this guy’s daughter. They meet on several occasions…It was just that Jack has gone mad, this Hamlet’s ghost kind of thing.”
>>
>>83986169
so neither way we get a fucking closure?
>>
>>83986169
Looks like that would be an even more depressing thing with no actual ending.

Possibly with the father being the one ending up in jail or dead at the end.
>>
>>83986201
>>83986229
Still would have been better then cgi heaven and Susie banging her crush.
>>
>>83986253
it would've been just different, same outcome

>>83984943
the true crime aspect with mr harvey is genuinely creepy and would have made a great movie on its own
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdK1Yb7YE2s

but instead of being another run of the mill murder mystery it adds a more empathetic and human side to it. It shows what a family goes through after something horrific like that happens and how it tears them apart and how they move on as best they can, vs a law and order esque vibe where a girl is murdered, the detectives callously take about it and the family is shown once being upset and seemingly fine by the end of it
>tfw I read the book just for the opening murder
>got engrossed in it and finished it in a day
its pretty good desu
>>
>>83986304
>/tv/ on the left
>>
>>83986304
I heard the book goes even weirder than What Dreams May Come in the lengthy and unnecessary depictions of the afterlife, which chapters dedicate to it.
>>
>>83985723
>most of the girls i know find this movie marvelous because it makes them cry hard
thats like saying little boys think transformers is great because it has cool car robots fighting. Its called pandering
>>
>>83986292
Probably but who knows she said her version was going to be really different than the book's ending. So maybe the killer could have actually been caught in that one.
>>
>>83986344
Leaving his basement even for a minute?

Come on anon, that's a slightly more proactive r9k if anything
>>
>>83985892
technically they do find out mr. harvey was a killer, he just skips town before they arrest him
>>
>>83986381
Sounds more like something where the father dies along with the killer trying to get his revenge since he has just lost all traces of sanity.

Actually sounds like a more watchable movie
>>
>>83985253
>girl
>having good taste in kino

If you didn't at least get a blowjob out of watching I'm disappointed.
>>
>>83986400
You know, creepy old dollhouse maker in a suburb just seems a tad obvious even for the era being depicted. You think the town would have at least run him out just for assuming he did it or was creepy enough.
>>
>>83985253
> taking advice from women

Are you mentally retarded?
>>
>>83986448
he's played up a bit creepier then in the book, in the book hes just a polite yet shy hermit. And plenty of serial killers in real life are either right in plain sight or seem slightly "off" until they are exposed
>ted bundy
>john wayne gacey
>dennis Rader
>the green river killer
>>
>>83986361
In the book Susie has ghost sex with her crush.
>>
>>83986611
>Years later
>Late teens guy
>Still manages to tag that 14 year old he was totally into way back in the 8th grade

it's not pedo if they are already dead?
>>
Does anyone ever look back at that middle school crush and wonder what if? Seems a little more fantasy-ish there
>>
>>83986659
He was in his 20's and she used the body of her lesbo friend to do it. The part where she choose to give him a handjob instead of finding her killer made me kek.

woah...truly the movie of our generation. Jackson is a god
>>

>>
>>83987106
Because pg-13 and sersha was pure back then unlike that slut Susie.
>>

Priorities matter more

Killers come and go but finally managing to tag that special one you never got to fuck before death is just what really matters in the end.

Why can't boys understand The Lovely Bones?
>>
>>83987106
Movie simplified lots of things. They removed almost every other person the interacted with in heaven and turned her roommate into some other girl that was also killed by the guy. The affair with the cop was dropped too
>>
>>83987361
>The affair with the cop was dropped too
That didn't make any sense why they drop that.
>>
>>83986361
the book goes into more detail with what heaven was for susie, its a lot bigger of a place with more and more organized then a big cartoonish valley she plays in like in the movie. Its also some kind of purgatory until she goes to a bigger heaven. They obviously change more from the book, but theres a lot of character development and side characters that are important they dont show but double down on the sappy happy heaven land stuff

Actually similar in a few ways.

She goes to a personal heaven before going to the real heaven. But she gets a roommate and a kind of teacher/parental figure that tells them the rules. And they mostly watch the real world like they are watching tv. They watch what people are thinking and dreaming, and she does interact with her living family members a lot more often like her younger brother.
