Its not engaging enough and its based on an action series. What they should of done is used their powerful characters to add weight to more action scenes, given fans superficial things like zords and monsters they recognize instead of their quite baseless and boring interpretations. Also use the whole song and have a metal ost so it doesnt sound random and out of place when they do use it. Just playing it for ten seconds was very strange but its superficial and tone setting things like that, that make Power Rangers. Having a giant monster vs mech fight without metal music in a movie called Power Rangers is a sin. Outside of that the characters can remain unchanged. A reboot was necessary but it didnt need to be an origin story, if they test screen with audiences so much I dont know how they wouldn't realize that those stories aren't very interesting to audiences by now.

They put the Rangers and zords on the poster, indicating thats what will sell the movie, yet did not focus on them in the movie.

Having just rewatched it, you're right. It's an hour until we get to any action, and that first hour hurt it bad. It's basically the same problems 2017 has, in that we're watching a Power Rangers movie without Power Rangers. There's the little scene halfway through where they're given the Turbo powers, but they don't really do anything with it other than wear the suits. The second act where they're in the ship was completely useless, and really just made the movie a struggle to get through. They should have made the rangers get the powers in that act, like the in the first movie. Might have helped the pacing too.

The action scenes in the cave feel odd, the soundtrack doesn't really match the action and instead plays off incredibly sombre. It does get better after Kimberly and Jason get possessed and start fighting the rangers.And holy shit I got hype as fuck when they started the Megazord sequence. The new movie really needed that.

The megazord design was complete shit, it didn't even look like they combined. It was a giant metal man with the pink one on the back. The cockpits just kinda being attached to the front didn't look great either. Transformers fights are clearer than the combining sequence.

Take that with the suits being used for all of 3 minutes and you get a pretty shit Power Rangers movie.

On the bright side, the movie's shit quality made me check out Zyuranger. It's like a slightly more serious, yet more magical wacky MMPR. It makes sense given it's Japan and all. Just a couple episodes in, I like it.

I wish the opening theme from the original MMPR would've played when they became the megazord. But other than the music, I really liked the movie. I've always loved Power Rangers, especially Mighty Morphin', and I like what they did with the characters. Except Kimberly, she was kind of a bitch. I prefer it over other reboots like G.I. Joe, Transformers and Ninja Turtles.

They were basically never in full suits, the whole thing built up to this dramatic end fight, but then they rashed that and ignored key elements from the source material because it wouldn't fit in their serious version of power rangers, that is somehow still...quirky?

Yes, clearly there's some kind of body that's wearing the zords more than the zords are making the body. Not only is that not how Power Rangers works, it still doesn't solve the issue that there's not enough of each zord represented on the body.
