I never watched it in a packed theater to begin with because my mom didn't let me watch PG-13 movies until I was actually 13 and I was only 7 or 8 when it came out

I didn't enjoy Fellowship on first watch. The theatrical cut felt rushed and I didn't feel the connection between the characters, seemed like it just jumped from plot point to plot point and I didn't know why they all acted like they were best friends all the sudden. Two Towers saved it for me. The extended cut of fellowship was much better.

But I was fortunate enough to watch it with my 3 friends on a big screen at our church. Blew my mind and this experience led me to realize the superiority of home theaters to public ones.
