Honest question, does actor recognition detract from films?
One the one hand, I love watching talented actors explore different characters, and some of my favourite movies feature comedic actors turned dramatic. On the other hand, I have to admit that it does ruin the experience sometimes. I'm currently rewatching The X-Files and it's weird to recognize most of the actors in these episodes from other things, to see what's supposed to be an anonymous tough lady NY cop and recognize her as Janice from FRIENDS. Pic related and most of the other actors from Breaking Bad have been in minor roles from all sorts of random TV and movies, and while it's fun to recognize their younger selves, it does get distracting after a while. But it also makes each minor character seem more fleshed out in a weird way if you know that actor has greater potential than what's being shown.
Would you say that recognizing an actor in a film or show enhances your experience or diminishes it?
tl;dr lmao
