Is anyone else surprised that nobody had any problem with referring to Casino Royale as kino of the highest caliber?
>>
>>83959965
it was good mostly because of how bad the franchise had gotten
>>
>>83959965
literally the only good parts are with mads. everything else is dull and boring. i kinda like the shower scene and the fight before it on the stairs but craig and the bond girl are so shit it ruins it.
>>
It's honestly the best spy film of the past 15 years, and it's a shame the rest of the Craig Bond films couldn't reach anywhere near its excellence.
Killing off Mads was a huge mistake.
>>
It was focused, small-scale spygaming with some pretty hard hitting consequences. Which they got away with because with a new Bond, you almost are able to suspend disbelief and feel yourself in his position.

Great film and great Bond film, so it's not a surprise. The surprise is when they decided to move away from the obvious winning formula of it to then go back to the same old stakes of 90% of Bond films with QoS. QoS wasn't bad but it, and all the films after it, suffered from typical save the world overfocus.

fucking this. Mads carried the shit out of this movie

QoS really should have had much more interesting villains after the hype brought forth by Casino Royale.

The only reason it worked is because Austin Powers beat to death the campy spy tropes so all that is left was to wholesale copy the Jason Bourne approach.

So instead of being sophisticated Bond became a Terminator-like killing machine that literally runs through walls and can't be stopped once he starts running after you.
He also can't be bested in hand-to-hand combat and so on...

The story also lost all grand aspects and was reduced to Bond taking out middle management while the big cats are off-screen and out of sight.

That was all changed in the cheesier sequels though.
>>
>>83960204
Agreed. It's a shame that they have gone the direction of having either completely ridiculous video game villains like in Skyfall or Spectre or having the just another rich dude who's gimmick is that he has no gimmick.

Bond can go three ways: Ape Jason Bourne, Deliver a memorable adventure full of spy games and intrigue, or fun camp where the whole point is to watch a dude be a badass for two hours even if it doesn't make sense. They need to write villains for the middle category, with only a touch of the camp.

Fucked up thing is that shit show Spectre got 4 stars while Casino Royal got a measley 2.5 fucking bs. Here is my rating
>Royal - 3
>Skyfall - 2.5
>Spectre 2
>>
The great thing about CR is that Bond feels like a very small piece in a much larger game that we never fully see.
There are players off-screen that Le Chiffre is afraid of and that control his destiny.
Bond merely jumps into this situation and fucks it up using blunt force.

The other Craig-Bond movies move closer to the typical Bond formula with diminishing results.
>>
>>83960079
The mistake was making Mads' character pretty much a nobody in the context of the plot. Just a kind of pointless villain so there was no reason to keep him alive.
>>
>>83960444
What the fuck are you referring to? 4 stars from who? Some nobody nobody cares about?

Double trips never lie.
I agree. There should also be sub villains not leaders who Bond inevitably has some kind of duel with.
>>
>>83960509
On Dish Network
>>
>>83960469
Which is awesome because why the fuck would an operative level spy, double 0 not withstanding, ever have the entire picture of all of the evil in the world? His job is to just work cases, one at a time, sometimes for years and usually would never know the outcome. Now that's more realistic and Bond isn't based in that but I find it telling that CR was so compelling because it gave you a taste of that sort of spy life.
>>
>>83959965
Because it's great and is only made greater because it's surrounded by shitty movies.
>>
>>83960469
I just rewatched it and I'm a little confused when he wakes up in the yard at the mansion and then those 2 guys come and taze Rene Mathis and somehow Bond knew they were coming...desu the last 30 minutes seems like it was thrown together so chaotically they didn't even give a flying fuck its like some 12 year old just puked out short action film out and they allowed it.
>>
>>83960079
>>83960215
I'll tell you one thing, Kingsman went back to the "campy" spy formula and that is easily better than any Bond film since Casino Royale. It's hard to fully convey just how much I appreciate what Kingsman brought back to the table.

Granted, I haven't seen Man from UNCLE yet (I'm planning to soon) so I don't know how that one ranks. Dunno if there's anything else besides the aforementioned Bourne which has been a mediocre series since Supremacy.
>>
>>83960543
On Dish fucking Network? What is so special about them? You know we don't use dishes anymore, we've upgraded to cables.
>>
>>83960628
Casino Royale definitely had a weird final 30 minutes. It had so many points where it felt it could have ended and it just kept going.
>>
>>83960661
Loved Kingsman I'm hyped for part 2. Uncle is unbearably boring I fell asleep halfway through but I was also really tired it may be worth another view.
>>
MY NAME IS LE CHIFFRE

WELCOME TO MY CASINO ROYALE MR BOND

IM SECRETLY WORKING FOR BLOFELD BUT YOU WONT FIND THAT OUT UNTIL ITS RETCONNED IN THE FOURTH MOVIE

HERE ENJOY THIS TOTALLY NON POISON MARTINI

What did he mean by this?
>>
>>83960700
It basically goes into a whole new story plot that blasts through beginning middle and end in like 15 minutes it kind of ruins the movie.
>>
>>83960106
Craig's post CR films suffer from this stupid habit of over connecting and trying to spin things into one big story. There's no real reason for QoS to be a direct sequel to CR and it would be better if it was just a discrete story. Skyfall avoids this for the most part and ends us Craig's second best but the problem comes back even worse in Spectre. In fact, Spectre goes out of it's way to retroactively ruin CR and Skyfall by insisting that literally everything that happened in the last three films was part of Blofeld's retarded master plan, robbing Le Chiffe and Silva of all their agency. The backstory and childhood of Bond also get way too much focus.
>>
>>83960679
My parents have Dish I visit often idk where they get there ranking system from but it says the rating of every movie in the info.
>>
>>83960740
I'm more annoyed by Silva turning out to have been working for Blofeld, because he seemed very personally motivated. At least Le Chiffre was clearly shown to have a mysterious higher entity he was working for.

I'm basically just pretending Spectre didn't happen until we get a new Bond movie.
>>
>>83960811
Once he escaped from prison and Bond chased him and he somehow planned the train to derail and crash at the exact moment Bond had a gun on him after years of being in prison I was fucking over it.
>ok so in a few years I'm going to break out of prison and escape through this tunnel system and at exactly 8:32 am Bond will catch up to me right as I'm climbing up this ladder and the train will crash allowing me to get away.
>>
>>83960833
Well it's probably ranked by old people or something and we all know they're idiots. Personally I don't like to pay attention to ratings at all because some of my favorite films were butchered by the critics, but Rotten Tomatoes is pretty much accepted as the go to source for public opinion on any given film.
>>
>>83960967
Agreed
>>
>>83959965
I can't even tell you why I enjoyed it so much... it was weird, it was sort of a Bond movie that betrayed expectations in a good way not once but multiple times in the film, Mads was great but then his character kind of comes in and out of the film so it's not just because of him, maybe it was because of Craig? I think it was great because it kept doing unexpected things over and over, the scenes that unfolded the ending were really strange though, like there wasn't enough for me to understand or quite believe it at the time.

QoS was shit but Skyfall was grea too imo. Spectre should have finished before the 30 minute add on the movie came with.

Recent spyshit ranking

1. Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
2. Man From KINO
3. Kingsman
4. Spectre
>>
>prime Craig
>prime Eva
>best car
>best opening sequence
>best song (dum dum dum dum dum DUM - i mean you cant even fucking argue agaisnt it, this song fits bond like a glove fits a hand)
>best villain - handsome, cunning, determined - a perfect counterpart for James
>god-tier action sequences
>no less tense poker table scenes
>characters have actual depth

the sequels only look mediocre because they pale in comparison to the perfection that was Casino Royale

By falling for the Mads Mikkelsen meme you're every bit as bad as the people lining up for the latest Chris Pratt flick. These men are marketing tools, not actors. The Hunt/ Pusher are a hollywood shill job made for the express purpose of creating a new "legitimate" actor to be used in subsequent capeshit releases in order to attract the "film buff" demographic to maximize profits. This happens all the time in hollywood. They pluck out a new star with an inoffensive face from obscurity, put them in an indie shit on the cheap, and bam, they now have "legitimacy" "wow look at this hot new talented actor" appeal and can now be a new "artificial star" to hinge your summer tentpole release on.

It is all fraud, a manipulation. Mads Mikkelsen is no more an artist, no more a human being even, than the new mcdonalds festive hamburger promotion. He is smoke and mirrors, a light show, a pretend actor.

Exact same career progression is true of all of the shilled meme actors of late. Lawrence, Fassbender, Hardy, Pratt, Isaac. By supporting these "lesser known" critical darling you are only enabling the pre-production marketing phase of the capeshit machine.

Mikkelsen is lying to you with his very existence.

Is this connected to the other ones? I only ever saw the first one and I really do not feel like watching every single MI film.

Neither of these were made in Hollywood. Post discarded.

Casino Royale finally ditched the "generic naked girls dancing around" that all the other opening sequences have, and it was genuinely the best one as a result.

Then they went right back to the naked girls for the next three films. I don't know why EON is so retarded.
>>
>>83962753
They're mostly self-contained stories. You could follow Rogue Nation just fine if you've never seen a single film before but some things might go over your head. If you do decide to watch them, you can skip the second one.
