Why don't mainstream directors edit their own movies? They're the ones who have the vision of how their movies should look and feel like, so why do they handle the task of editing to other people? Bad editing/pacing and misplaced cuts can ruin the original vision. Why do they take the risk?

Editors are supervised by directors 99.9% of the time, and in any case the director watches the final cut. Do you honestly believe that they have absolutely no involvement in the post-production process and don't see the film at all until it hits theaters? What a fucking stupid person.
