So I'm about to start production for my first independent production, which I'll be entering into the Sundance festival. Everything's all set up and it's looking good, but I just need to settle one issue before I start production. I'm an ausfag and origianally the story was going to be with Australians (obviously) but the story doesn't depend on that fact. A friend who's helping me with this production suggested that the actors use American accents, so as to appeal to the American audience more. What do you think, would it have a better chance of getting accepted into sundance if the accents were australian or american?

I think it'll be a huge hit if it includes CIA power stance, big guys and at least one BRAAAP scene. Every fa/tv/irgin will watch the shit out of that.

It does not involve any of those things, but I'll add it to my notes
Just make a good movie, no one gives a shit about accents if the quality is there, look at Joel Edgerton's brother. Animal Kingdom and shit, they all have accents. People don't care.

Hey if you don't believe me look up that meme porno that was a collab between /tv/ and some normie porno dude
huge hit

I never said I don't believe you, I absolutely do

Well unfortunately it's still a problem that needs to be solved. The people involved in production are split atm. In the end I'm the one with the decision making power, and I'm leaning more towards doing the accent, but I don't want to make a dumb decision and piss everyone off
absolutely shameless self bump

I can watch the entirety of this gem and understand everything. Americans only identifying with other americans is a meme.

if you are worrying about stupid shit like this then the movie is gonna suck
worry about relevant stuff
>>83904645
nigger there's plenty of other stuff to worry about, but this is the only one that I would bring to /tv/ for genuine advice

If the actors are australian, then certainly go with your native accent.
If just one actor doesn't nail the american accent that's already a big flaw, too much risk.
I would also say that an Australian film submission actually has an advantage because I assume there aren't many of them there, while there certainly are a lot of American ones.

There's really only one actor that plays a major role, but I can see what you mean
That's also the argument that's been made by one of the other people on production, that an aussie accent will seem more exotic and appealing
>>83904930
how bogan/10 is your major actor
>>83905101
Well my major actor is me and I don't consider myself too bogan, but I'm probably biased
Your audience will be many individuals with no consensus of opinion - how can you make a decision on the behalf of multiples? You do not know them, why alter yourself for them?
Trust the audience to accept the film you make, audiences are often better than people think. You are aiming for Sundance after all. I understand the wish is to make the film successful, but I think your friend's suggestion cannot be taken seriously. If you are serious about your film, it must be as close to you as possible - people will respond to your experience. You have an experience of your country, I cannot think using an artificial (American) experience will improve your film.
As well, how many American submissions will Sundance receive, and how many Australian? If your accent will stand out - where is the sense of removing it? You already admit you have exoticism on your side.
Best wishes with your film.
