The protagonist acted so bad in the third part so unbelievable

Honestly the only Freddy movie I didn't like out of all of them (including even 2, haven't seen the remake but don't plan to anyway). The dropoff in quality is crazy and even the Freddy makeup and production value took a hit.

I remember watching the special features and they all sucked up to the director like she was so fit for the job and deserved it by working at the studio for ages and liked what she did. Fucking please, she clearly had no idea how to direct a horror flick OR a satire/comedy of the genre. You know you look bad when Renny Harlin of all directors, outclasses you in the series.

There is nothing to respond to. Relatable characters? They're no more fleshed out than the kids in 6 and die faster. Why does ignoring part 2 matter at all, how is that even a quality? Of course it will ignore part 2 if it's a continuation of the first movie, but it has no bearing on the filmic merits like photography or editing or so on. Looking back at when the ANOES remake was announced, the biggest thing everyone was worried about was who would play Freddy and what the filmmakers would do to the character.

Then it turned out that Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy was the ONLY good thing about the fucking movie. Jackie played him perfectly, and the new look for his burns was awesome compared to the classic "pizza face" look.

Everything else was trash. Almost all of the other actors were bad. Rooney Mara isn't a bad actress but she was totally miscast as Nancy. The nightmare sequences were devoid of any vision or creativity. You'd think with all that's possible with CG, they would've created some amazing nightmare environments and worked in some twisted dream-logic. But no, not one fucking iota of effort went into this.

I think a certain demographic was really turned off by Freddy being returned to his pedophile roots, too. People used to laugh along with and cheer on Freddy in the classic films. Nobody wants to cheer on a child molestor. Personally, I was a big fan of making him a frightening monster again.

It's a goddamn shame the ANOES remake was such a disaster. What a wasted opportunity.

The only clever part of the script was when they start fucking with the viewer by introducing the idea that Freddy was falsely accused of being a kiddie diddler and that's why he's killing the kids, to take revenge on the parents. But then, NOPE, he really was a child molester after all!

They made Freddy scary again, but I think a lot of people went into the movie not expecting to see a classic horror icon turned into a child molestor. The classic movies only ever referred to him as a "child murderer" and any molestation was only implied.

Does anyone else like New Nightmare?

I always thought Freddy's look in this movie was pretty great. The burn makeup could've been better, but the coat and new "glove" design was pretty cool. It wasn't even a glove -- the knife-claws were part of his hand, as if they'd been surgically attached. With a bit of design work to improve it, it would look awsome in a modern Nightmare movie.
