i think it was important to identify her as an extremely dynamic character. kinda in the same wing as lets say captain willard in apocalypse now. we new willard was disconnected from the world, but we never really saw it until the scene where they stopped the vietnamese boat on the river. even though the woman was still breathing and may have a chance to live, willard shot her. if that scene was taken out of the movie, it wouldn't have made a difference. but to witness willard's continuing decent into his personal madness for the sake of his mission to meet and kill kurtz is necessary for the character development. showing how ginger's sanity was failing due to ace's lifestyle and needs was important to the buildup of ginger's escape from ace's clutch. she was like a caged animal and i think she portrayed it very well.
