I'm not loving it but I'm not hating it, either. It's just extremely slow and far too many new character have been introduced--so much so that I feel not enough will be covered in 18 episodes. I can be patient, but I hope at some point we'll get end-of-season-1/beginning-of-season-two-tier pretty soon.

The Hitman scene is a nod to the murder scene in mullholland drive. He used a midget because the dancing midget guy from the previous seasons came at Lynch with an ice pick because he railed meth one night and has mental illness. Lynch actually kicked him really hard and they tied him down rather than call the cops.

on the complete set documentary, Frost is interviewed and Lynch was too busy. Frost gives sincere and honest opinions on what they were able to accomplish together, always sharing the credit with Lynch.

Every cast member just says "David is a genius" with no mention of Mark.
