Honestly, Arnie was not a bad idea to portray Freeze. Michael Ansara's performance in TAS was most notable for his robotic, almost inflectionless delivery and the accent. The only reason Jeff Bridges isn't as well remembered is because after he nailed it and was amazing, Marvel decided "Ah, people must really like sinister businessmen in suits for villains" and proceeded to cram them into several more movies so now the mere sight of them automatically tunes people out.

Personally I liked how his character progressed from "friend" to "slightly amoral companion" to "rival" to "oh fuck he's been behind every awful thing happening this whole time". In particular that scene where he's confronting Pepper and you're not *quite* sure if he's figured out that she's learned too much yet was great.

And the fact is, most of Marvel's villains don't get that sort of arc; they're either smirking sinister masterminds or looming booming boss monsters from the get-go. That sort of slow burn from "someone close to the hero" to "evil monster" we got in Iron Man was part of why I liked Ego so much in GOTG2; he'd largely come on the heels of a slew of other static villains.

I have a feeling that Lex will get these moments going forward. He spent the bulk of BvS processing the biggest infodump in the history of mankind.

It's not often discussed, but there's a facet of Lex's depiction that's about violating boundaries and not respecting "sacred" spaces. People ask why no one else had thought of using Zod's remains to access the remainder of the ship, but the truth is, it's not what methodical, respectful scientists would do. They'd take things slowly, working their way ever inward toward the heart of the ship, a sort of "holy of holies."

Lex is too arrogant and impatient for that. He makes straight for the genesis chamber, and he does so without even bothering to don the "ceremonial garb" of his fellow practitioners of science. Lex doesn't respect.
