In your opinion, what are the 3 greatest movies of all time?

My picks:
1. M (Fritz Lang, 1931)
2. Jury Duty (Pauly Shore, 1995)
3. Haggard (Bam Margera, Brian DiCamillo, 2003)

pic unrelated, this isn't 'who is the hottest woman of all time'
>>
1. Super mario bros
2. The pest
3. Godfather pt 2
>>
>>83800146
damn those are good - but I'm curious why you put super mario bros on there
>>
LOTR

1. Mullholland Dr.
2. Amadeus
3. Boogie Nights
>>
>>83800198
yeah, that's pretty fair

my alternate top 3 would have to be the extended appendices for each movie (maybe it's cheating to have a top 3 that comprises 11 hours of material, but whatever)
>>
Sunrise
L'Atalante
L'age O'dor
>>
>>83800212
I gotta rewatch mullholland dr.
but Amadeus is a great pick (also I could not get over the mom from Even Stevens trying to blow travolta - just too goddamn priceless)
>>
1. Blue Velvet
2. Tropa de Elite 2
3. Akira
>>
>>83800264
wait - I just confused saturday night fever with boogie nights

shame on me

dear Frenchies,

District B13 almost made my list
so damn good
>>
Avatar
The Force Awakens
Titanic

Movies are supposed to entertain and appeal to as many people as possible. They are not high art. Revenue is the best way to judge how entertaining a movie is.
>>
>>83800317
gonna watch it.
im not french btw
>>
>>83800173
>why you put super mario bros on there

because it is good.

no, I was totally serious (but also this just for fun - hence the 'opinion' part)

1. I think M is pretty self explanatory - but I definitely favor it over other classics like metropolis or the seventh seal just because of how tight the plot is and perfect everything is paced - not to mention the cinematography

2. this one's kind of a weird pick I realize but Jury Duty is possibly one of the greatest movies of all time because the plot is completely ridiculous but plausible in the way it is presented; all of the gags are funny but don't create plot holes because they can all be taken out without affecting the story (although they still add to it); and the ending is absolutely perfect because the hero only gets the $5 for being on jury duty, etc. (unlike some contrived hero worship party with a cliche happy ending) - AND you're surprised by the stanly tucci reveal as the villain (which is also in terms of storytelling just done flawlessly)
I seriously have no idea why everyone hated this movie so much - if I was a film professor I would open every single term with a discussion of the merits of this movie

3. hard to explain Haggard if you havn't seen it but the story is just one of the greatest damn things ever told; all of the characters are perfect; the fucking soundtrack, the fucking editing, the jokes - it's all just perfect and cozy and relatable and it's one of those stories that just picks you up and puts you right where you need to be as a human which is sort of stories should be doing in the first place, right?
From a film standpoint this movie gets uber points for being low budget and amateur as well and for managing to blend such perfect drama, comedy, and /action/ (not like guns and cars, but more suspense - except occasionally there's skateboards)
>>
>>83800521
more on Jury Duty:

also, what other movie bothers taking the risk of having the main characters be jurors instead of lawyers? this movie got no props for that which is a damn shame
>>
>>83800332
Rocky Horror Picture Show has been playing weekly in theaters across the country for 40 years. I'd throw it in the conversation if "entertainment value" is the only metric
>>
Apocalypse Now
Sorcerer
Vertigo
>>
>>83800625
question about vertigo:

why do you favor it over other Hitchcock films? I'm personally a fan of Notorious, Suspicion, To Catch a Thief, and Rear Window
>>
>>83800332
What about the movies that YOU found most entertaining?

>>83800127

1. High and Low
2. Mirror
3. Werckmeister Harmonies
>>
>>83800127
Only God Forgives
Brazil
Paths of Glory
>>
>>83800521
>>83800571
I should note too (aside from the poor editing of those posts), I don't include movies based on books on my top movie lists because to me those are really only good because the book was good (and in almost all cases the book is better; the only exception that immediately comes to mind is Bladerunner because Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep is a terrible book)
>>
>>83800699
high and low is now on my watch list

thanks anon

you'll be VERY glad you did

happy to help!
I can't promise you'll like Jury Duty as much as me but I definitely can't think of a reason anyone would not love Haggard (unless you just REALLY hate Bam Margera or ever having to look at a skateboard - I can promise you'll bust at least one gut laughing)

the moral of the story is critical thinking

Smokin' Aces
Fellowship of the Ring
Semipro
>>
>>83802950
Why Fellowship over Two Towers or Return of the King? I keep seeing people prefer it over the other 2 and I don't knw why. The multiple events happening simultaneously in the 2 others with the grander scope and higher drama trump the first easily for me. All I really remember from the 1st is the opening, the shire being an hour long, the cave trolls, YOU SHALL NOT PASS, and the ending
>>
1. Rambo
2. Rambo: First blood, part 1
3. Rambo: First blood, part 2

I honestly can't even pick 2 or 3 over 1 another. They're both equal perfection minus deus ex machine at the end of 3. And the sound design is fucking immaculate. Perfect surround sound films.
