Moana is a shit musical.
The songs themselves are mostly meh (excepting How Far I'll Go and You're Welcome) but the biggest problem is that they don't know how to use them. You can't just plot a catchy song wherever you want! It has to be used to show character growth or reveal something important!

Your Welcome is the only song that really does this because it shows Maui's true personality. But of course /tv/ is filled with redditard contrarians so they will defend this shit musical to the death.

Moana songs wete written by a broadway guy; so, it may be different from what you'd expected.
That's said, coconut song had its meaning, it showed how moana felt ('And no one leaves'). How far ill go, is straight Moana pouring out her endeavors and her passion. The rest are either serving as a reminder to the audience about Moana's goals and passions, or just fillers (this movie really had too many songs).
The problem is the plot and the characters: they are, once again, shallow.

Moana becoming a master sailor after a few hours and Maui quickly relearning the hook spoilt the character growth of both of them. Needed another monster for them both to be forced to get over their weaknesses.

Also too many refrains of How Far I'll go, would have liked to have seen one more original song instead.

This movie was garbage

1. Boring characters. Both of them look disgusting. Moana looks generic at best.

2. Entire boring plotline on a fucking boat

3. Rehashed backstories. Moana is an Ariel rip off

4. Jokes are flat or they trying to be meta

5. Songs were horrible, so forgetable and not catchy at all. They were mostly spewing exposition in most cases.

6. The forced chicken and little tatoo guy tried too hard as typical Disney mascots

7. The cute lovable pig was false advertising, and didn't actually go on the quest as the trailers implied he would

The songs in Moana aren't even timeless, and wont be remembered 25yrs from now. Same problem with Frozen. The songs are generic disposable, flavor of the moment bubble gum pop songs.

Frozen, and Moana both suffer from shitty modern day pop-songs that sounded like they belonged more on a High School Musical/ Glee soundtrack than in a timeless Disney animated classic.

It started to seriously irritate me towards the end when the characters were literally just stating direct exposition or spelling out their development as characters without the slightest hint of subtext. The only song that fits is the Maui's because he is egotistically bragging about his achievements.
