>considered a 'bad' classic-era episode
>was legitimately funny
>gave us 'Thats The Joke!' and 'Man Getting Hit By Football' memes, amongst the most popular of the many Simpsons memes dotting every corner of the internet
>>83745608
only groening considered it a bad episode because it was "shilling" the critic, only to later on have bullshit crossovers with futurama. He certainly doesn't mind shilling his own series.
Considered bad by who, that retard who posted once? It's even a good cross-over episode.
It stinks!
Then get me his non union mexican equivalent!
>>83745608
the critic was a really nice show :(
>>83745683
Yes, Mr. Sherman, everything stinks.
>>83745608
its a great episode but it foreshadowed the shit that the show would eventually embrace and become wholly.
just stop after season 10 and watch nothing else.
>SCHINDLER AND I BOTH MADE SHELLS FOR THE NAZIS BUT MINE WORKED, DAMN IT
Well Scooby Doo can doo-doo
DRINK THIS, JUDAH BEN-HUR

it always triggered me how the twin towers were floating on water in this background.
>are they booing me, Smithers?
>n-no sir, they're saying "boo-urns!", "boo-urns."
>excuse me, are you saying boo or "boo-urns?
>BOOOOOOOOOOO
>I was saying "boo-urns"...
>>83745608

Barney's movie was stupid though.
>>83746088
Barney's movie was kino, faggot.
>>83745897
I haven't seen this episode in at least ten years but I can still hear this line exactly as read.
simpsons was, briefly, perfection
>>83746137
you're not cool, you're not funny, you're not interesting. shut up already.
>>83746179

It didn't die.

Let's just say it moved me...TO A BIGGER HOUSE
>>83746317
it's 30 seconds at least dumdum what kind of Simpsons fan are you?
>>83746341
:^(
The only "bad" classic era episodes are clipshows, presuming we aren't counting the first season as classic era.
>>83745916
But Jimmy Carter...is smarter...
>>83746425
If we count Season 9 as classic era, then Lisa The Simpson is definitely a bad classic era episode.
>>83745660
the futurama crossover should have happened 10 years earlier, and been a two parter, for peak funniness
>>83746137
>briefly
5-7, my man
>>83746425
Yes but the first clip show had the exploding beer joke which is one of the classics. Even that they did it right.
>ARGH MY GROIN
I like this episode a lot and I own this t-shirt. I've never even seen an episode of The Critic.
HOTCHIE MOTCHIE
>>83745608
Who considered it bad? I thought it was great. Also the critic is super under rated. One of the best animated comedies ever. Shame it only got the two seasons though
>>83745608
The Critic is now remembered as a classic funny cartoon while the Simpsons is considered a dead horse that won't stop being milked.
Take that Groening you hack.
I heard that the last 2 season have been pretty good? Could it be true? Haven't watched a new episode in about 10 years myself.
>>83750132
>I heard that the last 2 season have been pretty good? Could it be true? Haven't watched a new episode in about 10 years myself.
There is no way, you can make over 15 years of pure shit, and then out of nowhere make 2 good seasons.I haven't seen any of it, but I doubt it's true
I'm looking through the writers of various "the critic" episodes, and there are a ton of writers who used to write for the Harvard Lampoon just like the classic simpsons guys. Which would explain why the critic was so great. Whatever happened to the harvard lampoon? Do they still spit out terrific writers that I just haven't heard about or was that just like the golden era for them?
>>83750198
What I read was someone describing them as good compared to the shit that came before in the previous 10 years. Obviously not glory days standard but actually watchable.
>>83750132
It has one or two "decent-ish" episodes sometimes, but it's like finding a tiny speck of fools good in a sea of shit.
I was surprised by this episode I saw about a year ago
>recentish episode
>plot involves Lisa wanting to be liked by a substitute teacher because she has to be a goody two shoes student
>teacher just keeps it real with Lisa, doesn't treat her any better or give a shit
>voiced by Tina Fey. Just doing a character role. Not a wacky "random celebrity visits Springfield" thing.
>>83746425
>implying any episode with "gonna paint a wagon" can be bad
BOOO-UUUURNS
I miss The Critic, but I guess its better to be wanting more than to be absolutely disgusted to see things that I loved die slow, agonizing deaths.
>>83751072
I wish we had a show like the critic but made in 1 week like south park. Imagine a trailer dropping and a few days later Jay is shitting on it. It'd probably never get made cause of all the corporate head aches.
where to start with simpsons?
>>83746425
The Homer/Marge flashback episodes were bad.
>>83746310
The spanish version it´s better:
>Did something got stuck in your throat and it is dead?
>I ain´t dead yet.
>>83750041
It was briefly revived online over a decade ago
>>83751368
heh
>>83745608
Rewatching it, and dear lord there are so many classic lines in this one
>>83750081
>The Critic
The what?
>>83751134
Start with Tracy Ullman sketches, watch until about season 9 or 13 or so.
>>83751534

>>83751674
You have to kys
>>83745660
The Critic crossover happened back when Groening was still involved in the show, as far as I know he now just sits back and collects the checks
>>83751534
It stinks
this show was reddit before reddit ever existed
>stupid white man does stupid things for stupid reasons
>quirky introverted science girl solves every problem every time
>most religious man in town openly mocked for his faith
>all crime in a mutli-ethnic town committed by a fucking white male

it was worse than rick and morty, and that's saying something

>>83746088

>>83745608
It was a great episode but Jay Sherman's involvement had pretty much nothing to do with it.
>>83751134
try to start with Season 1. It's pretty hit or miss, but some of the episodes set up future episodes (specifically Krusty Gets Busted). if the episodes are too slow for you, skip ahead to season 2.
the frequency of bad episodes starts increasing around season 8 or so, but I would keep watching until at least season 9 since it has some good/great ones (The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson, The Homega Man, Bart Carny, The Joy of Sect, Das Bus)
>>83752501
>great ones
>Bart Carny
>>83752585
Bart Carny is a good episode though. I don't remember the whole episode but I just watched a few clips and it seems like one of the good ones
>>83751940
I'm as /pol/ as they come, as in I would actually gas the kikes and hang the niggers and even I think you're grasping at straws here.

>>83745660
>groening was against an episode that was writtten around the celebrity guest star
>the entire series is now that
Really neuters my nuts.
>>83751463
Probably best if you don't watch it. I think I laughed at a total of one joke.
For one, it was in that early stage of "web animation" where everything is a fucking slideshow or tweened to hell.
As others have said, better to have two fondly-remembered seasons than be in a stage like the simpsons where your bad seasons outnumber your good ones 2 to 1.
>>83745608
it was a great episode. I loved the critic
>>83752862
It's a ring toss game.
>>83746425
>>83746905
Season 9 had a few bad episodes, tbqh. It was the beginning of the decline.
The Shary Bobbins episode (season 8) was pretty bad too.
