>>
>>83718388
>>83718518
He killed his wife and Dick Laurent, the man he suspected his wife to be having an affair with. The middle segment of the movie where it cuts to Pete Dayton is a fantasy where he is the victim, fabricated by his ego to protect itself. All of the "characters" in that part are variations of the real people he knew. This plot point was the inspiration for Silent Hill 2 by the way.
>>
>>83718887
Okay, that's pretty much what I figured. That one line the weird guy, who I assume to be the angel of death? said "In the east they punish....(something blah blah)" stuck out like a sore thumb so I figured it to mean that his Pete fantasy was part of a mystic punishment.
One hell of a fucking ride that film is.
9/10 would get LYNCHED again.

annie appears to laura as a dream/hallucination.
annie is bloody and likely freshly dead from events at the end of season 2, a long time after laura is killed. So her ghost traveled back in time.
the things annie says to laura could not possibly make sense to her and are meaningless during the rest of lauras life.

so many questions here, lynch must love bending peoples brains
>>
>>83719277
Do it!
>>
>>83718062
Yeah, I wouldn't go as far as calling it not good, but /tv/ overrates the fuck out of it. It's honestly bottom 3 Lynch, in my opinion. People say it's a good standalone movie, but it absolute does not work without knowledge of the series, either. Nevermind the fact that it has bad pacing and was clearly a film put together in editing.
>>
Are The Missing Pieces inarguably canon?

If so, why do so many people see fit to retcon the nurse scene?
>>
>>83719602
Major Garland Briggs

I've seen up to EP12, The Arm forces Briggs to do some weird alchemical ritual in the lodge after he does. He creates a gold ball thing out of part of the ring. It's presented in a weird montage fashion.

There are other deleted scenes that didn't even make it to The Missing Pieces, they have to surely be cast as canon regardless if they are contradicted by season 3.

>>
>>83719860
Were the other scenes even shot, though? None of the material with the Hornes was shot on account of Richard Beymer refusing. A sequence with Bobby and Laura driving to the woods that transitions to Pete and Ed was never shot, either. I don't think the scene of Harry singing to Josie was shot, either. There isn't a whole lot else in the shooting script.

I watched FWWM with a fever and that was pretty fun desu. Since it already feels like a feverish nightmare the fact that I was living exactly that amplified it and made it a unique viewing experience. I can always just rewatch it too, if a movie's good enough I'm always up for a rewatch.

No, this sounds silly to me. Inland Empire demands attention, feeling shitty or disoriented is only going to numb you to what's on a tiny TV screen and make it harder to really get into the film. Surrealist art =/= tripping drugs, although people like to meme it that way.
>>

I watched the fan edit of Fire Walk With Me while high on edibles. I peaked right around the rape scene and final day sequence. That was a memorable experience. I felt an intense empathy for Laura and Bobby, though not James because his acting was too shitty. The most emotional moments for me watching it were Laura's last morning and day of school, Laura and Bobby in the basement, when Laura runs into the woods while the music swells, and obviously the train car sequence.

I can still think when I'm like this, it's just a different kind of consciousness. But since you've seen the movie and I haven't, I might just take your word for it and watch it fresh.
It is three hours long and the DL is an extra hour so by the time I'm halfway through I'll be passed out and it's kind of a pain to rewatch the first 1:30 that I just watched the previous day.
>Surrealist art =/= tripping drugs
They do complement each other quite nicely though.

>>83720223

>>83720418
The Q2 fan edit. Puts the missing pieces back into the movie (except Coop talking to unseen Diane). I prefer rewatching it that way. Only complaint is that the sheriff station and Packard mill scenes are better left out, but those are just a few minutes and it aimed to reintegrate every scene possible.
>>
>>83720495
>The Q2 fan edit
Noted.
That does sound good, watching the missing pieces alone was enjoyable but it felt fragmented.
What you mean the Lucy getting spooked and 2x4 kino? Sure, they're silly but they're pretty fuckin funny.
>>
>>83720495
The 2x4 scene didn't fit, but I loved it.
Actually as tangential as the new season gets, the Q2 edit is better than ever.
>>
>>83720495
>(except Coop talking to unseen Diane)
do you happen to know why was this left out?
>>
>>83720567
They're good scenes, I agree, but Lucy getting spooked, per the shooting script, is right before Laura's last night so it feels really strange to transition back and forth. The saw mill scene is not only unrelated to everything else, but also goes right after the drug deal sequence.

Because it doesn't really fit into the movie. There are two sequences with Coop at the FBI. The first starts on a serious note with him walking into Gordon's office and trying the camera, which transitions to Jeffries. The second he's seated with Albert and has a premonition. He's also in a brief sequence with Kiefer. None of those can naturally integrate with or transition to/from his comedic, high-spirited interaction with offscreen Diane.
>>
>>83720629
Okay, I see what you mean then.
Since it's basically a rewatch I don't think I'll really mind since I've already felt the feels.

Q2 likely preferred the ambiguity in Diane's existence, and also probably felt the almost instant tonal shift between that scene and the Jeffries entrance was a bit too jarring.

>I couldn't watch TP when it originally aired because it was so BORING. Every time I tuned in, it was people talking in a room. That's it. And if I stayed long enough to hear what they were saying, they would be talking about NOTHING. I figured out that I couldn't follow the plot, (or had to make one up) because there WAS NO PLOT. A man went to a town to investigate a murder. That's it. Nothing else ever happens. Just people talking in rooms. And all this taking NEVER advanced the murder investigation ONE BIT. I liked the part that I was in, (because I was in it), but it still didn't make a hoot of sense. Hard to watch.

I bet you're one of the people who complains that the pilot spends too much time focusing on how sad everyone is. FWWM is Lynch's most human story.
>>
>>83723075
I think FWWM is the best part of Twin Peaks and I agree with your assessment of it being one of Lynch's most human works but I unironically think the Pilot is boring because it's a bunch of unestablished characters being sad about a dead character we never met

james and donna are probably some of his most boring characters
>>
>>83722847
Yes it is. Nevermind these plebs talking shit when they never had it before.
>>
>>83723148
she's not very interesting on her own, but she is good and sympathetic as a Lynchian stooge for the surreal horror aspects of FWWM. the high degree to which Laura's life is completely fucked without anybody close to her knowing or understanding and her only way of taking control of her life being through sex is very very sad and isoalting

and her relationships with Leland, Donna, Bobby, and even James to a lesser extent are really complex and interesting in FWWM the fact that Laura and Leland have a kind of unspoken understanding of what's going on in that whole confrontation scene with Mike is gut wrenching.

you're right we never really know laura on her own, she seems like a boring empty personality, but she's a confused teenage girl whose problems are actually as bad as most teenage girls think their problems are, she doesn't know herself either, she mostly just reacts and tries to survive
>>
>>83723147
I think the strong empathetic connection made by the music and the understandable circumstances cover that. I remember when classmates died in high school, both when I did and didn't mourn them, and I thought it showed how idyllic Twin Peaks was when even people who disliked Laura mourned her just because they truly felt everyone was an important part of the community.

Hello friends

I'm midway into season 2.

So far:
>Andrew Packard is actually alive, Catherine's attempted murder and survival, and this whole real estate/monopoly game was apparently part of their plan.
>Cooper's on suspenders
>There's a giant pirate with retard strength who wants to fuck little boys
>Mulder is gay now
Poor Leland ;_;

I really wonder if this is the point where the show jumped the shark, remembering from some previous thread where a lot of people said season 2 was sub-par compared to season 1, with some posters even suggesting to skip it entirely.

I want to complete the series in its entirety because I trusted Lynch and got through the slow-paced cinematography, and season 1 was pretty enjoyable at the end of the day.

Please, grant me strength.
