Sure the Godzilla series has its fair share of average and bad films. But is that any different from almost any other long running or big name series? Most Spider-Man, Star Wars, Alien, Predator, Superman, King Kong, Predator, James Bond flicks aren't much to brag about either. Though be older and foreign would be considered a negative to some people as well.
