Theres no execution that can excuse a random nobody pilot acting like hes the biggest deal in the universe after witnessing the main villain kill a bunch of civilians and stop a blaster shot in mid air. One of the things about quipping is that its used as character building in shitty movies. Its the easiest way to tell the audience "this guy is so awesome he isnt fazed of anything and can even joke in the villain's face xD", often by characters who have no right based on skill or achievements to act that way. Brain dead redditors like it because they can think "wow I could act like that as well in that situation!" while an actual well built character would be off putting and harder for them to relate to.
