Why can't we use /tv/ for casual discussion, and create

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

The inherent nature of film and television, relative to other art forms like literature or fine art, makes it a natural breeding ground for casual discussion/jokes/shitposting/fanboying/etc. This is fine, I get it, it comes with the medium.

But why can't 4chan create a different board, /film/, for people who genuinely wish to discuss film in a more serious manner? No memes, no fanboying, but a more mature place for people that are actually invested in film, or wish to become invested in it.

/tv/ literally has more memes than actual conversation, and I hate it. Boards like /lit/ aren't like this. I migrated from reddit because I hated it over there, I mean, I was only going on r/moviescirclejerk anyway, which makes fun of the r/movies subreddit, yet I still wasn't happy because the culture was still too Reddit-y. I've tried r/TrueFilm and while there is good discussion there, the highest upvoted threads are still ones jerking off to the latest mediocre "blockbuster" like Arrival or fucking Pleb Pleb Land.

I came to /tv/ and was delighted to see how much more tasteful the people on here generally are, you guys don't suck Disney's dick, you recognize that modern capeshit is for 5-year-olds, you possess self-awareness in most things you do. But after a few weeks of being on here, I'm sick of it. I'm sick of the fucking BLACKED threads, of the stupid, uninspired memes like "What did they mean by this?" (which is a good meme in some contexts, but is lame when the context it is paired with does not adequately justify its usage), the "cunny" bullshit, the waifuposting, its 70% garbage and I'm tired of it.

I'm not saying I want all of this to stop existing. I'm saying I want there to be a new board where that kind of shit is not allowed, while allowing this board to remain and be an outlet for people who just want to relax and shitpost.

Can we PLEASE get something like this mods? It's just one new board, and would improve the culture of this forum so much. Please?
>>
(OP here. Please don't shitpost in this thread, I made it with pure and positive intentions and there are literally dozens and dozens of other threads for you to shitpost in on this board, which is the very problem that prompted me to make this post)

I second this.
>>
Because there isn't enough people to make it worthwhile.
>>
>>83609067
we've been asking for /film/ since ~2011. Moot wouldn't do it. Hiro probably won't either. Sad but that's been the state of affairs around here.

Hell after most of the waifu shit got pruned, they took over /hr/ with it instead.

Just report off topic bullshit and look for the few actually good threads in between. It's what the rest of us do.

not yet
a lot of people from /lit/ or other places would come to talk about film, you just don't see many people here because they're scared away by all the horrible threads. But anyway this goes without saying, yet a /film/ board will never be made because of stupid reasons.
>>
>>83609067
Just make quality posts in quality threads, that's it really.
And if that thread doesn’t exist, you go ahead and make it.

These meta threads do jackshit.

Because any idiot catch watch television or a movie and think they're fucking critical genius. It's a nice idea op, and I'd genuinely like to see something like that, but Nishimura won't go for it, and even if he did, retards would just flood it with the same inane shitposts.
>>
/film/ did happen as a test board.

It got flooded with cuck porn within the hour

Wasn't the first post on the board just a shitpost about kangaroos?

This board USED to have more quality discussion (although there has always been memes and 4chan culture as well).
I think the fact that a lot of newcomers (esp.) from Reddit and teens have come to /tv/ the discussion has been slowly going down hill for a very long time. And this pushes away the people who actually do want to discuss films. For instance I used to be on here all the time, and people use to Sage capeshit threads and call them out on the bullshit, now there's probably at least half a dozen capeshit threads up at one time.
Also the same /tv/ friendly shit is posted AGAIN and again, like right now there's a thread asking for favorite horror movies. And the OP posted the fucking Thing to start the thread. Yes great movie, but seriously, has anyone here not already watched it and actually needs it recommended? Throw out some new shit every once in a while.
I hope we get a film board, but I don't see it happening any time soon.
Letterboxd is a great place to find film recs, but it's missing the discussion aspect. I just try to find people with interesting taste and follow them. https://letterboxd.com/Deity/

/film/ already existed, it was a monumental failure
>>
/tv/ is saturated with shitposts. this place is wild man WIIIILD

Hey
Arrival and La La Land are good movies

It doesn't matter, the point is that splitting /tv/ will only create two boards full of idiotic shitposting instead of creating one board for thoughtful and insightful posts about actual films. It can't happen. This board is infested with literal retards who never spent any time on /b/ and thus they treat this fucking board like /b/. it's over. you should really stop caring
