You're right that it's the purest form of BBC quality. Rebranded BBC nature documentaries have been shown on the public broadcasting channels for decades where I live and if they tried to replace it with non BBC content people would riot. But it applies to dramas, british police shows etc. as well. People love BBC even if they do occasionally put out stuff that really doesn't live up to the name.
