It's not changing the definition at all. Every character who has ever been denounced as a Mary Sue has had one thing in common: They were awesome at everything, even though they were inexperienced.

You can go ahead and hate the Intern, and you can hate DeNiro's character. Who gives a shit? But a character isn't a Mary Sue just because you can't find a fault in their skill set or personality. "Ugh! They're likable and capable! They're such a Mary Sue!" Yeah, no they're not.
