there's 3 kinds of characters at the moment.

1) Villains/people who did something wrong to a 'good' character, or appear to have done so (LF, Cersei, Gregor..)
They will all die. No villain can survive the show unpunished, that wouldn't be "justice" and something ending unjustly would be considered an unfinished story arc by showfags in this GoodvsEvil show. "But LF didn't end in the show? Are we supposed to assume Sansa kills him afterward?"

2) 'Good' characters you're supposed to root for (Jon Snu, Tyrion... ). They will win-win-win every single thing til the end and always appear heroic or clever. They will never ever die, be crippled/maimed, and will never make a big mistake with dire consequences unless it's to show some villain's treachery, but they'll overcome it and rekt them back.

3) 'good' expandable characters (Yarasha, Tormund, etc.. )
These characters are almost all guaranteed to die. Because the show needs to kill 'good' characters to pretend that everyone is at risk, without killing any character at the top of the meme crew. You can't kill Jon Snu... But if you kill Jon's supporters - say, Tormund - they'll think Jon might have been at risk too! Such tension! They can't kill Dany... But if they kill Dany's supporter (Yarasha, few thousand dothrakis ) then they'll think Dany is facing a challenge!
That's the tragic moments the show will have.

Literally the only thing that's going to be accomplished in the northern storyline is Littlefinger dying? Seriously that's it? They just execute him and are like well.... that's it I guess. ???? Has there ever been a storyline that's just ended so anticlimactically?

But yes, I think this might have been something GRRM would have gone with.

First off, there are THOUSANDS more characters in the books, and half of them are evil/evil'ish. GRRM couldn't have killed them all. I think there are clear 'bad guys' who could still be alive at the end. An unwritten message about how these kind of people will always exist, just because a good person rule now doesn't mean everyone will behave, etc...

GRRM bit about Aragorn tax policy basically shows that he doesn't believe in this, but also, a rule is only temporary. A fairytale ending would still just be a fairytale for 30, 40, 50 years at best? Then back to the beginning, the next king might be good or might be retarded, wars may start again, diplomacy might fail, and so on. So GRRM's ending will not be a "final"one, it'd just be the end of a chapter (I mean chapter of westerosi history), but very open because even if peace is achieved in the last book, it's not permanent. It's just a temporary peace, l ike there was thousands of other temporary peaces that didn't last.

That's the thing, it doesn't seem to have a valid endgame. At best they just push back the loss a few years. Doesn't change anything.

And one might say that (Like Jaime thinks) the blackfish just wanted a good death and all, but I don't think that's right. First, most people's opinion about other's thoughts in asoiaf are wrong. And second, Blackfish refused to fight Jaime 1v1, and didn't even consider him a big threat. At worst he dies and it's his combat death, at best he kills Jaime and while they wouldn't break the siege for it, at least he killed an enemy that he despises.
