Watched this last weekend and it was great.
Are there any other decent epic WWII movies that tell the story from a German perspective and preferably German-made without getting bogged down in Nazi shit? I've already seen Stalingrad which was okay.

The Germans lost the war. You will never see a movie that is in any way supportive of the Third Reich. A movie like Das Boot gets away with being essentially neutral or portraying the soldiers as good guys who do what they are told, and the officers as blasé or cynical. In fact, in Das Boot the sailors mostly sing English songs (Long way to Tipperary), because it would have been politically incorrect to have them sing some actual Nazi war songs.

Oh yeah I forgot about that, I've seen that too.

Pic related isn't German made but it is Peckinpah goodness.

Who cares about the Third Reich? Treating the average German soldier as a human being isn't the same as supporting the Third Reich. Just like how a movie like Tinker Tailor Solider Spy isn't supportive of intelligence services even though it's about spies.

i think he's more against movies demonizing soldiers/sailors, just because they're german.

no, not really. das boot was the peak of german ww2 kino and they would not allow something like this today.

>bogged down in Nazi shit
I think that's unavoidable. But at least the Germans are good at portraying it in an interesting way, unlike Americans who treat them like comic book villains.
