She basically "surprises" for acting differently than before, not monotone all the time (but it's still most of the time). But she's still bad.

People are raving about the ice cream scene, but while the "it's wonderful" line is delivered ok, the rest is just so stilted...

She's doesn't feel great from the get go, and some of the lines came out kinda stiff, but by the end of the movie you can't see anyone else as WW.
I think Patty is just a good actor's director, and she will probably not be as good in the JL movie.
