How did they get away with releasing this film in 2002, a year after 9/11?

There were people raising a stink about it. Trying to petition newline to change the name.
Thankfully no one who mattered took it seriously.

I DONT KNOW BUT ITS A FUCKING OUTRAGE
>That scene where Gandalf rams an eagle into the side of Isengard
How the fuck did Jackson get away with it?
The part when Saruman wears camo and promotes jihad against the USA was a little confusing tbqh.

What a different time.
>the scene where the orcs blow a hole in that horse kingdom and they used audio from 9/11 to get an actual reaction from the audience

In 2017, I fear a petition like this would actually work and they'd be forced to change the name.

Money triumphed.

I thought the scene where Nazgulz crashed into Isengard while chanting songs from Sauron's then fledgling religion to be truly on the nose.
I only found it in the Blu-Ray Extended edition. A different time indeed.
cause we needed to move on and not tear shit down cause it hurts our feelings

This is the real answer. Everyone was so sick of politics and real world events at the time.
The whole Lotr trilogy came at such a perfect time. Pure escapism done very competently. Fantasy setting to boot. The West against the Hordes sort of deal but weakness of the protagonists and just being there to witness it all.

theyd change the name before the petition
