its beautiful, its original, its surreal, it was made on an almost nonexistent budget, its is terrifying and its about the anxiety and fear of becoming a parent and taking on responsibility.

It's just an art film. Some people like more abstract films to bounce their own interpretations and ideas off. They're design to 'really make you think.' It's fine if things like that annoy you, go watch a film like Kes or The Elephant Man, which has the same artistic value but without the abstract/surrealism to play with.

well for one its not the films fault that you dont care enough to actually invest your mind in what you're viewing. But art films arent for everyone and thats not really a bad thing.
Keep in mind that the word pretentious doesnt actually mean something thats artsy or abstract, it means that the film is totally devoid of meaning while portraying itself as having a great deal.
A good example of a pretentious film would not be Eraserhead, but a film like Only God Forgives would be.
