Don't Look Now (the best of all of these. make sure not to spoil it before you see it)
Burnt Offerings
Phantasm
Neon Maniacs
The Gate
The House with Laughing Windows
Watcher in the Woods
The Psychic
The Blob (1988)

It has some pretty good pit hair shots.
Some more:
Le orme (Footprints on the moon) ... (this one is up on youtube, one of my favorites)
A Lizard in a Woman's Skin (another Giallo, very dreamy, great soundtrack)
The Wicker Man
Picnic at Hanging Rock (definitely at the edge of horror, kind of a weird fiction type story)

suspiria
there's this obscure movie from the 70s called suspiria
Alice Sweet Alice.
>>83384172
Watched a movie called From Beyond today, it's set in the 80s but based on a short story by HP lovecraft, it's not scary or anything but it was very unsettling and had some outrageous practical effects
>>83389880
The same director, Stuart Gordon, adapted another Lovecraft story in the film Re-Animator. It was released the year before From Beyond and is also good.
>>83390066
Also Jeffrey Combs plays the protagonist in both movies.
There's this raunch lil' dirty lesser know movie called Get Out. Big ups!
Suspiria

I made a thread a little while back recommending a several movies you might like if you're into Picnic at Hanging Rock:

Maniac Cop has pretty cool atmosphere. I'd recommend it.

He's not wrong, Suspiria is seriously so awful.
Henry:Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986)
>>83393068
Nobody is obligated to like anything, obviously, but you might be overlooking the appeal of a movie like Suspiria of your complaint is its 'awfulness'.
Argento and Giallo fans are fully aware how shitty these movies are on many levels. I don't think anyone argues that Giallo has great plots or dialogue.
Their virtues are more aesthetic, visceral, emotional, tonal, visual but also sonic. It's kind of like Italo Disco in a lot of ways which has cheesy and with terrible lyrics but are aesthetic and vibey and stylish as fuck.

>>83384172
Movies by Michele Soavi, who was Dario Argento's apprentice. He should have directed the Suspiria remake.
>>83384172
Is Suspiria really lesser known?
>>83394782
Not lesser known to horror fans, it's one of those movies where it's equally unsurprising if you have or haven't heard of it.
>>83384172
Everything by Argento
Tutti i colori del buio
Le porte dell'inferno (this scared the shit out of me as a kid)
>>83394782
Obviously not if Hollywood is doing a remake of it.
