I recently bought Max Payne 1 and am about to play through it for the first time. I know nothing about it beyond something an anon said while trashing the movie adaptation that stuck with me: "It's basically a John Woo movie storyboarded out. How do you fuck that up?"
As someone who fucking loves John Woo and action in general, this piqued my interest. Why is the game so beloved, and what the fuck happened to the adaptation to fuck it up so badly?
I'll probably check out the movie after I finish the game, for comparison purposes.

>Why is the game so beloved
Because its dripping with atmosphere. Its literally the definition of Noir.
Max had a hard life, but its okay.

People love the game because it's genuinely incredible. Especially compared to 99% of the shit that get's served these days.

Definitely on my list.

I'm not hearing much music and the sound effects are kinda dodgy too in parts. When I can hear Max his voice is incredible.
