Because going to the movies sucks now. The ticket itself is so expensive I can't stomach paying the price of another ticket in the form of drinks or snacks and then you have to watch tons of bad trailers and ads before you even get to see the feature attraction. I'd rather watch from home and eat/drink whatever I want for free and avoid any bullshit trailers for movies I have no interest in.

I just went for an 8:10 showing for Covenant and the actual movie didn't start until 8:35. That's absurd.

Shit movies. Unless they can work the hype built by belonging to a pre-existing franchise, nobody cares about paying to watch a movie in the theater anymore, unless it's kid's movies.
If you look at the top 20 grossing movies last year, only Hidden Figures and La La Land aren't either kid's animated films, franchise movies or remakes.
