This movie was surprisingly violent, crude, and dark for a Disney/Marvel film.
>>
>>83297427
It's about a bunch of space a-holes, one of whom is a sociopath and one an autist with no filter between his mouth and brain. Of course it was crude.
>>
>>83297942
Yes but all the penis references seemed too adult for pg-13
>>
>>83298046
There aren't hard and fast rules, but there are some strong guidelines: You can only have one "Fuck", you can't have explicit sex or gore, etc. If the MPAA looks it over and has a problem you trim out a scene they think is too extreme until you get back to PG-13. So people died by the score in the movie but it was largely bloodless and Rocket used nonlethal traps instead of blowing people to bits with mines.
>>
>>83297427
tfw when you find out that Starlord COSMIC AUTISM
>>
>>83298236
The first movie had less profanity but it instead had Drunk Drax and Drunk As Hell Rocket, which is also something you have to keep to a minimum in PG-13 movies.
>>
>>83298832
So you can't be full blown drunk, puking and slurring in a pg-13 movie?
>>
>>83298928
You can in moderation. A single thing can make a movie R rated, like a steamy sex scene or graphic bloodshed, or a bunch of lower rated stuff can add up - a whole lot of profanity, lots of drunkenness, etc.
>>
>>83297427
I had high hopes for this movie with Star-Lord's dad being the villain and all but it turned out just like any other MCU movie.
I knew Father and Son was in the movie and some asshole spoiled Yondu's death for me so I figured they would have Ego be the villain motived by reuniting with his son and having to do bad shit to get there. That would have made him more relatable to audiences. I imagined he would be the one to kill Yondu out of jealousy or something like that if they played the angle of Yondu being Star-Lord's foster father which would have been very effective and in the end he was yet another "I wanna take over the universe" disposabble villain that's defeated in some CGI fuck-fest third act.

The scene where he reveals his true intentions and that he killed Quill's mom was GOAT though

He really wasn't. He started out trying to be a more responsible leader and only became past-focused when he ran into his dad. Then he lost the last keepsake he had of his mom AND both his dads. Of course he was depressed at the end.

I saw it, thought it was very good. There was some "reddit" stuff like some of the jokes (dude nipples lmao), but some were pretty funny (Drax calling Mantis ugly), the music selection was pretty subdued, and the plot was actually really interesting for a Marvel movie, though there was a little too many moments that were supposed to be emotional. B/10. Worth it, but /tv/ nearly tricked me out of going to see it.

>>83303108
Making the relationship between Peter and Ego more than a short scene of them playing ball before revealing he doesn't give a shit about him and just wants his powers. There should have been more of those scenes, develop Ego as a legit caring father that can be sort of a tragic figure. The moment Peter rebels against him he just goes "k, I'll just drain your power and leave you to die then" with zero regards to him. Even in his dying moment he doesn't try to reason with him or apologize or anything, he just bitches about how he wants immortality

The crew. All the Ravagers jeering, the poor loyal crewman slowly dying, all the bodies in space. Probably the nastiest thing we've seen in an MCU flick.

They have a tendency to not develop relationships as much as characters, but then the main cast are ready to die for one another, fall in love, etc.

This movie really makes me want a series about spooks native to Earth. Like Morbius, Daimon Hellstrom, Blade, Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider, Man-Thing, Jack Russell, Satana, and others going around in the night, in the struggle to survive and coming to blows against each other. You can get more out of moral relativism and really nifty worn-down city sets.

But he Legitimately didn't care about Peter. It just would've been easier to have cooperation. That was the whole point of his character, he went around banging alien bitches until he made another celestial. No it's not particularly complex but at least him being evil was a twist. And we got something like you described between Yondu and Quill

The villain isn't the reason it stands out from other marvel, it's because of the relationships between the characters and how they change one another.
>Rocket saw himself in Yondu and his redemption let R see that he's not actually hated
>everything between bug lady and Drax
>gamorra and her sister
>Quill and his father
>Quill and Yondu
>Yondu and the ravagers and Stallone
>Gamorra and Quill

Literally ever main character except Groot was developed, not only that but some minor characters, and not only did they develop but they developed through one another. Show me another marvel movie with that level of sophistication

yeah because the contrarian dipshits know there's not much good b8 to get a good froth going.

The music was in fact used much better than the first movie. Almost every song had a strong thematic connection to the scene. For example, The Chain (first use) was about Rocket not being sure he hadn't driven his friends away and the second use was about Peter realizing that it was his "Happy place" or feelings of family that would let him control his powers.

The only thing from the MCU golden age that anyone will care about in 60 years will be the GotG trilogy.

And as long as 8 and 9 aren't matrix revolutions and reloaded bad, the Star Wars sequel trilogy will also be regarded historically as setting the franchise back on track.

But yeah coming from someone like liked TFA and loved Rogue One, Guardians is way better than nu-Star Wars.

It is the Star Wars for the kids of yestermorrow.

>>
>>83306142
What I said about the movie was that the third act was the generic "stop the villain from taking over the world", I never said shit about character relationships or anything like that. That wasn't my problem (Rocket and Yondu were GOAT). My problem was that the idea of Peter's estranged father coming back to reconnect with his son and being the villain of the movie could have been way better executed than just your run of the mill MCU supervillain.
>>
>>83306721
Watching Star Wars in the early 90's had a huge effect on me. I dressed up like Han in like 1995 because I had just fallen in love with the movies.

To me everything about GotG is what is appealing to movie nerd kids. It's what a kid can watch in 30 years and still be inspired. Civil War and everything else is kind of already dated.

GotG is the only thing they're outputting that will be seen as timeless and innovative and movie production porn for kids.

Kids will be emulating Star Lord for decades.
