How did David manage to infiltrate a civilizations home planet with bio-weapons so easily?

Why didn't the Engineers have any sort of advanced defense systems?

How come the Engineers home planet looked like a Roman-technology-tier city?

Why are people saying that David wiped out the engineers when its been shown that they've colonized and created installations out of other planets, IE Prometheus?

Are we to assume that a civilization which has been colonizing the known universe for likely millions of years is going to be defeated by a single android that had its shit pushed in, in Prometheus?

Can we assume that the Engineers will return in the sequel, since that's the only logical explanation for how the set-up to Alien will ever actually occur even though the engineer in that ship was millennia's old which discounts the fact that David was the first to have created them?
>>

Because it's aesthetic.

The movie was written as a 2deep4u way to bridge it Prometheus to Alien. Prometheus was re-written so many times that the plot is nonsensical no matter your suspension of disbelief.

My theory is that those are black engineers (hence underdeveloped technology), but we cant see it because they are albinos

How the fuck did David transport xenomorphs back in time to los angeles in the year 1997

No, I mean being tall, muscular, and white is the highest pinnacle of aesthetic perfection, and a race of aliens who have mastered bio-engineering can shape themselves to all look exactly like that.

There's a reason why the Engineers never finished what they started when they tried to destroy Earth with the black goo.

The black goo plague they unleashed on LV-223 spread to the entire Engineer civilization. They almost died out and the survivors lost all their technological know-how.

They built a primitive city around one of their ancient space docks hoping to find some of their brothers from other planets. David came instead and wiped the rest out.

It's clearly not. The white dudes he killed clearly aren't the same race as the proper Engineers.

Because they're probably some slave race
>How come the Engineers home planet looked like a Roman-technology-tier city?

No

Yasss. I swear though, if they make David a fucking time traveller who created the Engineers from the humans and thus some stupid paradox bullshit, I'm going to be pissed.
>>
>>83258823

It was the last remaining working space dock from their previous civilization. They built around it hoping to find other survivors from their other worlds, but David came instead.
>>
None of this makes any sense, Scott obviously doesnt even remember the details in Alien and Prometheus, the engineer in Alien is way older than David, and in Prometheus we see a mural of a xenomoprh so unless time travel is involved there is no way David invented the xenomorph.

As stand alone movies though, Alien is obviously good, Prometheus is retarded but has nice visuals, covenant is just ok (great performance by Fass in both).

But attempting to make a connection between the 3(not even gonna mention the others cause Scott doesnt consider them canon) is pointless cause all three of this senile fuck's movies contradict each other. He just cant into prequels.
>>
>>83258607
>The black goo plague they unleashed on LV-223 spread to the entire Engineer civilization

How could a terrestrial-based bio weapon spread on a galactic scale when decades have passed and humans have absolutely no knowledge of it?

How come it didn't spread to earth and wipe us out?

How did they just "lose" their technological know-how when they have ways to engineer their own bodies thus increasing their efficiency and ability?

How come none of what you said was explained or even referenced in the films?

How come Scott Ridley literally stated that the hologram projection in Prometheus was depicting a battle between warring Engineers and that the Engineers were in conflict with each other and your "black goo" explanation has no basis in the films or from Scott's own opinion?
>>

The black goo turns intelligent life forms into zombies slowly as seen in Prometheus.

An infected Engineer didn't know he was infected, flew to their homeworld, became a zombie along the way and the ship auto-docked. The the process kept repeating until the Engineers were all dead.

The mural isn't necessarily meant to be the xeno. At the end of Prometheus and throughout Covenant you see that xeno-like mutations are a common effect of the black stuff on living things, even before David ever gets his hands on it. All Covenant insinuates is that his xenomorph is created to be better than the average thing that the goo shits out.

So this mural is really just showing that the effects of the weapon were clearly understood to the beings that produced it.

It's a shit use of artistic license on the changing design and behavior of the alien throughout the series, but it isn't nonsensical.

No

>Can we assume that the Engineers will return in the sequel, since that's the only logical explanation for how the set-up to Alien will ever actually occur even though the engineer in that ship was millennia's old which discounts the fact that David was the first to have created them?
Probably yes
>>
Here is a theory.

They aren't exactly the same race, but that is the engineer homeworld. The engineers as we know them are not examples of ordinary members of their race. They are some kind of elite caste. Engineers are members of their race that have mastered the manipulation of organic matter, and they used this knowledge to alter themselves. Which is why they look different. They kept this knowledge from the general population and ruled over them as gods.

The engineers left their planet to test their pathogen on humans long ago but didn't return to their people. When the ship returned to the planet they thought their gods had come back to them, and that's why they were so joyous.
>>
>>83259423
Do white people have translucent skin? No, the difference is melanin. Even the palest white people don't have translucent skin. You need a different skin cell structure for that.
>>
>>83259296
He said he created the perfect organism, why the fuck would he give it that convoluted life cycle of queen(?) into egg into facehugger into chestburst when the neomoprh just spreads through spores and is ready to kill within an hour. Isnt the neomorph strictly better?
>>
>>83259275
>The black goo turns intelligent life forms into zombies slowly as seen in Prometheus.

But the very first scene of Promtheus involves black goo killing an Engineer in seconds.
>>
>>83257798
>David was the first to have created them?

I still dont think David created them, I think the virus that the engineers created would eventually evolve into the xenomorph regardless of David's intentions but because it consumed enough human-like creatures.

For all we know the virus itself wasnt the weapon but a way to create a weapon, the engineers bred humans in Earth so they could then use the virus to create the real weapon that was the xenomorph and if the Alien vs Predator is canon then its possible the xenomorph was created elsewhere and sold to Predators to hunt and Earth was, instead of its origin, meant to be one of countless xenomorph breeding grounds.
>>
>>83259001
you're the one making an assumption based on nothing. they don't look engineers, and them being engineers wouldn't make any sense. not only are you making that huge assumption, you're making it based on absolutely nothing, and in the face of pretty significant information to the contrary

That just boils down to the difficulty in making a variety of extras look like the Engineer's poster boy.

Ridley has already proved himself inept in replicating the groundwork he laid down in previous films.
>>
>>83259538
Maybe because the black spore stuff would burn itself out before spreading? The xeno cycle is both more independent and takes longer. Since it takes longer it can spread further.
>>
>>83259538
Because facehuggers, Xenomorphs and queens are all capable of much greater autonomy in spreading and adapting than simple spores.
>>
what will david do with the humans on the covenant?
>>
>>83259339
Then why did he just retcon queens out of the canon by making David the creator of the aliens?
>>
>>83259585
>That just boils down to the difficulty in making a variety of extras look like the Engineer's poster boy.
Nah, it's easy enough to make them look semi-translucent.
>>
>>83259549

Holloway only had a drop of goo and it slowly turned him into a zombie or was just gonna kill him. The Engineer drank a large amount of it. That might be the difference.

The geologist guy that actually turned into a zombie seemed to just fall in a puddle of it.

The effects seem random depending on what the writer wants to happen.

I think you're on the right track with the "slave race" thing though.

There's clearly some kind of caste system, and they are shaping their bodies to fit the job they were born for.

The warrior caste is taller, stronger, and they have the skeletal bio suits.

The slaves we see in Covenant are clearly much shorter.

I have a similar but simpler theory:

We saw in Prometheus that humans evolved from engineer DNA, the same deal happened on this planet, however the resulting species was closer to the engineers than the humans were. The engineers maybe stuck around along enough to be worshipped as gods, which is why they rejoice when they see the ship, they believe its the gods returning to them. They could also be less advanced depending on either them just being an inferior species or them being newer than humans.
>>

The roman-tier city I can accept easily.
After all, this civilization is at least 500 million years old.
If I was rich as fuck, I'd also go live in a house that'd appear very simple with japanese ceramics that are naturally imperfect instead of perfect factory-produced shit.

But it's retarded as fuck that they'd have no idea what the fuck was going on in that spaceship. No fail-safe. Nothing.

This plot hole is a non issue considering that was there home planet and they only have one city and the entire planet got wrecked. Why did david even do that? There's nobody left to experiment on after that. I see no logical reason why he would destroy an entire civilization unprovoked with no apparent benefit.

>>
I'd rather have seen a Prometheus 2. For all its flaws, it would've still been a more interesting movie. Ridley Scott should just be an art director at this point.

What do you think about this idea:
Start the movie sort of like 2001. Have it open on a vast landscape with a single, or multiple, engineers walking all over the place. They encounter small dinosaurs. But then they discover that they're also a ton of big ones. Could've inserted a scene where engineers encounter a T-Rex or something like.
Eventually they go back to the spaceship and decide that shit didn't turn out as they'd hoped and they wipe out the dinosaurs, so intelligent life might've a chance now, since they fucked up the first try.
Could be 10-20 minutes with a new take on dinosaurs that actually have feathers, or some shit.

You dipshits realize that they're perfect in the way colony insects are, right? Also there are real compromises that bipedal animals have to make in order to bring offspring or eggs (the latter being less so... but still) to term, especially if you want them to develop fast enough with the energy requires these sorts of things would have. It's pretty ridiculous to think otherwise. The egg-facehugger-chestburster/xeno makes perfect sense. The eggs are easy enough to make with a dedicated specialized unit or to do as they did in the first movie (see: most hive and colony insects), the face hugger develops quickly and cheaply, so if it can't find a host and dies it's not as much of a waste (they're disposable essentially), the chestburster grows into a xeno so that's just normal?

The spores have too short of an incubation time and are dependent on chance. The short incubation time would lead to them burning through hosts/whatever too quickly, ie it's too infectious and deadly. It's a targeted weapon, not a plague or civilization ender while also (like the black goo and sneks) being more controllable.
>>
>>83261401
>literally ignoring half my post
In order for every xeno to be able to lay their own eggs they'd have to have their own egg sack which would severely limit their abilities. So it makes sense that you'd only have specialized egg layers.

>That's the fucking problem. Why do you think infectious diseases with high mortality rates kill themselves off so quickly?

>>
>>83261584
Because in order for a creature like that to reproduce live offspring (or eggs) requires significant anatomical compromises. Think about humans, right? Child birth, naturally, kills like a quarter of women and a significant proportion of infants. Now eggs of that size would require similar compromises, so the next idea is live birth, right? Even worse. The specialization allows for safer reproduction and the face huggers allows for shorter and less energy intensive development. It's the sweet spot between live birth or individual reproduction and the stupid spore shit.
>>

>a perfect organism want's to get killed

This, everyone assumes that david made em fron scratch and thats a plot hole, he just repriduced or modified what he had into the already " perfect" xenoa the engineers built. Eggs of other movies are old and stuff but now there can be a fresh xeno-producer for future flicks that avoids the having to explain the engineers too much. Pretty smart desu

If they had no advanced enemies, they wouldn't have been preparing for planetary defense. It was also there own ship David was flying.
>How come the Engineers home planet looked like a Roman-technology-tier city?
One point is we're not sure it's their home planet, we know they were aware of several. Another is after a few millennia they might have regressed somewhat, or intentionally maintained a rustic lifestyle.
>Why are people saying that David wiped out the engineers when its been shown that they've colonized and created installations out of other planets, IE Prometheus?
People don't remember Prometheus.
>Are we to assume that a civilization which has been colonizing the known universe for likely millions of years is going to be defeated by a single android that had its shit pushed in, in Prometheus?
This time he had the high ground.
>Can we assume that the Engineers will return in the sequel, since that's the only logical explanation for how the set-up to Alien will ever actually occur
Yes.
>even though the engineer in that ship was millennia's old which discounts the fact that David was the first to have created them?
The Space Jockey's corpse was decayed, but the crew's assessment of the ship's age isn't necessarily infallible. Dallas said it was "fossilized" but exposed bodies don't fossilize, so there's no reason to believe he or the rest of them knew what they were talking about.

You treating it like it's Ebola when it's not quite the same situation. Ebola's high mortality works against it because it depends on the host for its own survival. If the host dies before reaching a population center where it can spread, that's game over for the virus.

The situation with the alien spore is different. The spore infects the host, but once the alien is spawned it isn't dependent on the host anymore. If you engineered the alien to release spores once it's hatched, it'd probably be much more effective than relying on eggs. The spores would spread much more quickly and the only limiting factor would be the ability of the aliens to seek out new hosts.

But there is still something that hasnt been solved.

The black goo has explictly been shown to be able to create life, as well as mutate organisms and kill organisms like the whiteys on the covenant planet.

What the hell is going on here? Is this the same black goo or different versions of it? Does it create DNA/life if you ingest it, die and give it enough time to mutate on a planet? Does it just mutate you if you come into contact with it without ingesting it? Does it kill you if you're covered too much in it?

Still questions that havent been answered, so we have no idea if this is a weapon or not yet or just an all-purpose invention by the engineers

>>83262519
I don't think it's "perfect" or would be. Just that the traits the makers of the film give it would make it literally a civilization ending plague if it were somehow real and the rules of nature that prevent something like it from existing, ceased to exist themselves.

There is something about the quantity too.

Shaw's boyfriend ingested a single drop and it mutated him. Whereas the engineer in the beginning of prometheus consumed a whole cup which probably is lethal and kills you right away, and disintegrates you into DNA

What the black goo is now I have no idea. David apparently altered goo that sends out spores and creates backbursters. Which makes one wonder how david this with absolutely no technology available (?). It's just so inconsistent

This single concept is mind-boggling to me. Who gives a shit as long as the film itself is self-consistent, and made competently? If Scott broke some of the larger 'universe rules' to create a good film, then the franchise would be all the better for it. Unfortunately, in this case, he only did one without doing the other.

Xenomorphs are whatever the filmmaker needs them to be. They can be as smart or as dumb as is needed by the scene, and can be created however the plot requires.

The whole of Covenant just seems phoned in.

There's a complete lack of excitement in any part of the plot.

Oh look a spaceship that suffers some malfunction which creates a situation where the crew needs to do something risky. Wow, so exciting.

Then they just land on that planet like it's no big deal in the most mundane sequence ever and then they predictably get infected and so on and so on...

Even David's presence has zero tension since he's nutty from the get-go.

Everything in the movie is just presented in such a bland matter-of-fact way like Scott completely forgot how to build up tension.

Even the crew doesn't seem to react to anything, from they ship malfunction to the life forms on the planet, crashed alien ship, alien necropolis, alien eggs, crazy android .... just look back at Alien and Aliens and how the characters voice their concerns loudly and react to things getting out of control. In Prometheus and Covenant everyone is just sleepwalking through their roles like they're all androids.

Everything is just too vague about the whole setting.

Apparently engineers :

-seeded life on Earth (which had to happen billions of years ago)
-in all this time they didn't advance at all
-they have an exterminatus mission on Earth but totally forget about it after only one of their facilities has an incident
-nobody checks on that one facility for 2000 years
-on their "homeworld" they live in literally once city on the entire planet that is essentially stone-age apart from one big spaceship that we never see again
-by not exterminating humans they allowed us to expand so much that we "mapped all the neighboring systems" as they say in Covenant when referring to the sector they're supposed to colonize
-one loopy android is apparently enough to wipe them all out with minimal effort

etc...

I think the idea in Scott's mind was that this ancient race is already way past its prime and is reduced to a minimal presence and easy to put out of its misery.

But what's the point of it all then? Why even have this narrative that offers no answers and no exposition, no lore, no nothing.
I'd accept it if David defeated them with the help of the Covenant crew and it was a close call and they barely managed to stave off another total attack on Earth but what we get is just so limp and uninspired

>How did David manage to infiltrate a civilizations home planet with bio-weapons so easily?
The ship is very old by that point, they are probably curious or reverent of it.
>Why didn't the Engineers have any sort of advanced defense systems?
Like us now in reality they don't expect attacks from outer space.
>How come the Engineers home planet looked like a Roman-technology-tier city?
Because they likely guided the course of our ancient civilizations when they visited throughout the centuries leading up to 2000 years ago.
>Why are people saying that David wiped out the engineers when its been shown that they've colonized and created installations out of other planets, IE Prometheus?
LV226 was nothing more than a military staging area, and every Engineer there is dead as well.
>Are we to assume that a civilization which has been colonizing the known universe for likely millions of years is going to be defeated by a single android that had its shit pushed in, in Prometheus?
If the opening of Prometheus is anything to go by the Engineers are no colonists, they just go places and interfere with the evolution of life there.
>Can we assume that the Engineers will return in the sequel, since that's the only logical explanation for how the set-up to Alien will ever actually occur even though the engineer in that ship was millennia's old which discounts the fact that David was the first to have created them?
That's a good observation, but any significance of the look and context of the original space jockey was probably already out the window after they changed the design in Prometheus.
>>
>>83260407
You're in luck. Here's an Interview Scott did:-

Scott - "Oh, so the critics of 'Prometheus' wanted more Xenomorphs? Okay, I will throw them all in even if I thought they were cooked with an apple in their mouth... the facehugger, the chestburster and the big boy. Oh, what's this... cool, a neat idea on another alien... the Neomorph. Yeah, let's throw guy in too. I like the spore thingy idea. But let's not dismiss those who liked 'Prometheus'. I will give a little bit of the philosophical aspect and a smidgen of the Engineers from 'Prometheus' to them as well so I don't upset those who liked that direction. We have to figure out who made the Xenomorph because that was always my plan with these movies before 'Alien' and as I've always surmised in 'Alien' and 'Blade Runner', AI is dangerous if not constrained properly, so we'll have to do something with that... David is insane and creates the Xenomorph... yay! There, that will get the Xenomorph-lovin' fans back on board with the franchise, but it MAY leave some of the Engineer and creation idea-lovin' fans out in the cold, so we'll bring them back in with... wait for it... an INTERQUEL! 'Alien: Awakening' because you have to be fully awake to even remotely understand how my 79 year old brain is working, mind you. Huh? Oh, that's right... 'Alien'. Ummm, then we'll make a sequel to 'Alien: Covenant' which is really a direct prequel to 'Alien' because you know we have to, literally, quite unquestionably, return, 180 degrees from the flip side, back into the rear of that one."

I think that he views the entire franchise as very lowbrow and the story should be just barely there so he can shoot stock "alien pops out of person, kills people" scenes like he did before only now he can play around with high-def special effects

I noticed that trend in a lot of oldschool blockbuster directors like Lucas and Cameron.
They just love to play around with new toys and more or less ignore how lame the stories are.

Lets take it a bit further then? The Aliens were an actually intelligent species that evolved to meet the needs of their harsh planet where survival is key. Reason why the aliens we know of are so aggressive is that such instincts are embedded in their DNA. They also once had their own form of language and technology. Eventually they merged with this technology and would go on to become the apex predators of their world. This is where the bio-mechanical aspect comes in. But how do they continue their species once they have wiped out life on their homeplanet planet? Go out into space and lay eggs on other planet and let nature take its course. But overtime they come across the Engineers which is highly advanced as well. The resulting conflict is devastating to both species.

Quite far fetched but I feel that if the Aliens have the capability of being spacefaring creature capable of conquering through biological invasion then it makes them more terrifying.

Originally, the scientist turned zombie monster was going to be much more alien in appearance and behaviour, which would have lent credence to the concept that the black goo was a genetic accelerant which breaks down DNA and repurposes it to Xenomorph phenotypes.

https://youtu.be/Ireq92-7Kk8

I always thought that the goo seen at the beginning of the film was a different, maybe more benign 'strain' of the accelerant, which repurposed DNA to an Engineer phenotype (creating humans). The black goo seen later in the film is a weaponized variant.

>>
>>83267897

Instead of fishing for answers that follow a logic of some sort but can never be confirmed it's easier to think of the black goo as an all-purpose mutagen that acts differently in different doses and when combined with different accelerants/compounds.

Imagine if humanity had a billion more years to develop and we focused our research on making some sort of super stem cell that can do whatever we want it to do.

That's about it.
