There is one that is only "based" on him, not actually about him
He has too many documentaries though.
>>chris cornell biopic accounced
I googled and found nothing
What are you talking about?
And why would you want one? Name one music biopic that wasn't shit and very inaccurate.
>>
>>83238986

Unlike Kurt and Chris, there was nothing romantic about the way Layne went out. Hard to glamorize someone rotting in their apartment for a month before anyone gave enough of a fuck to check it out.
>>
>>83239090
>Hard to glamorize someone rotting in their apartment for a month before anyone gave enough of a fuck to check it out
That's way easier to romanticize than Morrison's or Hendrix's deaths, yet they get movies.
>>
>>83239142

Well yeah. Morrison and Hendrix were also "torturted geniuses/voices of their generation" whereas Staley was just a dick who liked hard drugs. Even in his prime, he was still less-regarded than guys like Cobain and Eddie Vedder.

When Cobain died, the world was shocked. When Staley died, they played a couple of Alice In Chains songs on the radio.
>>
Better question: how come soundgarden never got a fucking unplugged session?

Also, AiC>pearl jam>nirvana in terms of unplugged performance

I like aic, but I can't recall anything memorable from the way staley "lived" his last days

he was just high. thats all I guess
>>
I imagine Staley like that guy in seven where he just constantly took drugs and you thought he was dead but was only kept alive by the drugs.
>>

There's no real story behind the guy, he was just a junkie. Cobain had the whole suicidal martyr and symbol of Gen-X despondency thing going. Cornell was an amazing vocalist and was at the forefront of grunge while also having another successful group in the 2000s. Stayley was talented but he wasn't provocative or influential.

That's so bizzare. I understand why Nirvana fits this style but Korn? Tbh I don't know if I like it or not. Davis doesn't really have a good singing voice. It's perfectly fine for the type of music Korn plays but not so much a sitting performance. But they nicely softened some of their harsher songs.

>>
>>83238986
As much as I'd like there to be one, you probably will never get it for a good reason in that because of how he was near the end.. it's best to remember him by the music.
>>
I have a feeling that the blame lies on Jerry Cantrell. The dude just can't accept the fact that Layne WAS Alice in Chains, and he's been riding on the name ever since. I think he's so egotistical that he felt the band was always his, which is why he still tours with the band and their shitty Lenny Kravitz clone lead singer.

I don't know, I just have a feeling he has something to do with it. That, and the fact that Alice in Chains is probably the least known of those grunge bands. A lot of people still think it's a glam metal band from the 90s.
>>
Perfect music documentary already exists.
>>
>>83241485
this

Ten is a MASTERPIECE, everything else is just eh while with AiC everything is good or better
>>
>>83242125
Jerry gave Layne every chance in the world to get his act together and showed the respect to not replace him or continue the band without him while Layne was still alive.

He waited nearly 13 years before putting out an Alice in Chains album without Staley which i feel is more than enough time to have waited.
>>
>>83242464

Layne WAS the band, just like how Kurt Cobain was Nirvana.

You know the difference? Grohl and Krist didn't have their head so far up their asses that they thought otherwise. Also Grohl had enough talent to make it on his own, with his own talent, without having to rely on the brand name of Nirvana.

Cantrell is just a loser, not talented enough to do his own shit. Always embarrassed by Layne because he knew, even nodding off through a performance, barely able to remember his lines, the man was a superior vocalist and made Alice in Chains what they were.
>>
>>83242150

Sounds like a memester who can't argue around it. You like them because they're the least popular of the nameable Seattle bands, notable only because of Staley's nasal vocals. He had no range and JC's guitarwork is completely hit or miss, the latter being more often the case.

They're literally just glamfags who switched to grunge because it was the local scene taking off. Disgusting.
>>
He was 6 foot 1 and died at the weight of 36kgs, worse he was found by his mom.

>>
>>83242593
Jerry also was a huge part of the band, yes part of their success was Laynes amazing vocals but another part was Jerry's guitar playing. Look at mad season they had Laynes voice but it was missing Cantrells guitar and it didn't feel as good as AiC was with both of them
>>
>>83239083

Cantrell is 99% of their sound and was never in a glam band. Dirt is also by far the most timeproof album with the most lasting value out of the entire grunge movement.

A Stanley biopic would probably turn into an AiC biopic, which would turn out to become the story of a tragic fall from grace with a form of hopeful redemption by the third act maybe? There would be more to be said about the context than about the characters themselves though I'm afraid. Drugs and rock n roll without much interesting sex. It could be shaped as an exploration of rock n roll's death, but that would be hyper depressing for audiences.

You could take an easy stab at the record industry machine as Layne did in the song Sludge Factory, you could make many parallels with The Doors, you could emphasize the pathetic of reality TV with Mike Starr's unfortunate end of life.

It's just hard to look at their career and story and find a strong thread for a good dramatic narrative that hasn't been done to death before. They deserve better than a mediocre script that doesn't bring anything new to the table imo. I'd rather see a good documentary on them than a shit biopic quite frankly.
>>
>>83244615
Well thought. I think a good doc like the one on the eagles would be nice, jerry sean and mike could sit down and talk about everything, they could show mad season and how he could barely do vocals for the class of 99 cover, then document laynes last days and ultimately his final hours and how mike starr had left him his last day.

>>
>>83238986

Chris Cornell wrote his own music
Kurt Cobain wrote his own music

Both of them were the heart of the band. Layne Staley was a faggot druggie that sung in that retarded trendy 90's fashion, and he wasn't even good at it. Jerry Cantrell, while he stayed out of the limelight, is the entirety of Alice in Chains, in the same way Tom Scholz is the heart of Boston.

>>83240350
Sort of oldfag here, too. Pearl Jam gets a lot hate from younger people (probably because Kurt got competitive and started shitting on them in interviews?), but that wasn't around at the time. In Seattle, they were incredibly respected; Stone and Jeff were key members of the grunge movement, Pearl Jam was great live, and Eddie was seen as just as much of tortured artist as Kurt at the time. Kurt is only remembered better now because he killed himself when he was still young and popular; funnily enough, Nirvana (and Kurt) were never actually as big of a part of the music scene is Seattle as everyone seems to think now.

>>83239219
>AiC>pearl jam>nirvana in terms of unplugged performance
This is true, but you can't really compare Pearl Jam's unplugged to the other two. AiC and Nirvana were two established bands at basically the end of their careers; Pearl Jam had been a band for a year and a half and had only put one album out. Their unplugged is mostly just them doing half-baked acoustic versions of songs from Ten, because that's all they had, and of course it's disappointing. Another session from 1996 or so would have probably been pretty great.
>>
>>83250472
Pearl Jam is fucking gay. Period. I mean the band's music, vocals and lyrics are gay enough, but then they have to go the extra mile and name themselves fucking 'Pearl Jam', too. What a bunch of faggots making faggot music for faggots. Fuck Pearl Jam. They should rename all their albums to 'Dicks'. First one is Dicks Vol. 1, second is Dicks Vol. 2 etc.
>>
>>83242593
>Layne WAS the band,
No, he really wasn't. Cantrell was the main songwriter, and most of their songs feature him doing co-lead vocals with Staley. Cantrell was the creative part of Alice in Chains, Staley just provided lead vocals and an image.

Saw the AiC on tv these days, the guys are still strong making shows and etc. The spirit of union is still there, they're persevering.

they say that Layne was 6'1 and 80lbs when he died. The day before he died he even had a visitor, an ex AIC member who soon after OD'd and died on pills. For reference Christian Bale is 5'10 and was 120lbs.

Nobody wants to see that shit. Nobody can portray that shit.
