I've seen it twice and my mind rationalized it to be that as a way of relief and catharsis, they decide to fuck in the shower because the ship has just left the engineer planet with (presumably) all surviving crew members. They didn't know about the xeno loose on the ship, thus the emergency call from Mother when it's detected.

It's still stupid, poorly edited, and extremely out of place but it kind of makes sense considering all your characters are borderline retards.

it was after they had left the planet and thought they were safe on the ship headed to their next stop, the two characters in question had never had dealings with any threats directly either unlike everyone else on the crew who went down to the planet. listening to music while making snu-snu in the shower drowned out an alarm when things went bad again.
