I don't understand why this fairly mundane OP became a meme but I don't mind because I love Day of the Dead.

It's simple. Rhodes didn't have a plan. He just shit himself and ran as fast as he could in the opposite direction of the zombies. The movie builds him up as a coward on the verge of breaking down from the start so it doesn't really seem odd when it finally happens.

Rhodes plan was to feed the zombies to death. Once they had choked on all his guts he was going to bring some young zombie lolis back to the bunker and take a shot at some lovin.

Also I think George was a bit lazy with his character in the finale.

Prior to Rhodes abandoning his men he seemed to have totally the opposite stance. I mean when he finds out Dr. Logan has been feeding his fallen men to the zombies he loses his shit and summarily executes him. Then, when he confronts the helicopter pilot and is accused of murder he actually defends his execution of Logan by saying that he was a butcher. That indicates that he feels perfectly morally justified in having killed him.

He's wrong to assume the other scientist is guilty of having taken part, but considering the mutual hostility between both groups, and the fact that Sarah and the others were planning to steal the helicopter and abandon them, is he totally wrong?

Until the moment Rhodes abandons his men I think that a viewer can easily sympathize with him over the protagonist. He yells more, and is probably on the edge of psychotic breakdown, admittedly. However even in the scene where he is first introduced I think the scientist characters are at least guilty of escalating the situation by arguing with and defying him over trivial shit.

I unironically liked this movie. It could've been better, and my understanding is that it was supposed to be alot longer with scenes in the swamp and such, but it was still fairly well executed. On Rhodes, I think he just panicked. They were all suffering from Night Sickness from the beginning and he finally snapped. I feel like his acting was some of the better acting in the movie even if a little over-the-top.
